and it's real convenient that the people who hate Bush are bashing him over this

they'll find any reason

not saying he's right or wrong, but it's silly to bash him without fact

no offense, but I think there is plenty of evidence that will demonstrate that Bush is not a strong leader, and he did not act in the best interest of those effected, nor did he take responsibility.

For example, he was on CNN last night & claimed to have not known about Michael Brown retiring after the new head of FEMA was already appointed. (the infamous Duct Tape man) Regardless of what he knew and did not, he is not one to accept responsibility or accountability for his actions.

Bush didn't make them poor but Bush has the power and authority to send help to these people sooner than it was done. Regardless of race the delay was just ridiculous. Maybe race is the easy way to get their frustations onto someone else, onto our government.

all i am saying is that it is logical to want answers to why this happened

and we will never know

but people are looking for the easy answers to this when there are none there. It's easy to blame Bush, it's easy to pull the race card, but we will never know and I think it's not in our best interest to make such assumptions.

I agree - they are looking for easy answers and looking for someone to blame.

they have a right to feel however they want

i just think that it is an easy cop out on their part to pull the race card

That's what Im saying.

Why didnt any of the young healthy strong people in the Superdome get off their a$$es and go out and help resuce their fellow people?

Weren't they told to stay put? What could they have done that our government wasn't doing - b/c they "couldn't"?

They didn't stay put - they were out lootibng or finding or what ever they want to call it. They were outside the dome, inside the dome, all over the place.

They could have listened to the warnings about the levees that have been pressed for the past umteen years. They could have had a better evacuation plan. They could have had more foresight & less hindsight. There was a *Pre-Emergency* state declared the day before it hit, but yet there was no action or planning to back it up.Chat Icon

Why is everyone so quick to blame Bush? I am not 100% a Bush supporter but there is a chain of command. There are people under Bush who perhaps did not do what they should have done right away - there is a chain of command. Bush is not the go to person as soon as a disaster strikes.

I think we can all agree that there was a lot of sensationalistic "journalism" wrt the reporting that was being done.

Being on the grounds of the dome constitutes being at the dome, imo...I don't think, once at the dome, people were allowed to come and go as they pleased. A lot of them had family they couldn't find - I don't think they were interested in anything but getting to family, a shower and some food...and rightfully so, imo.

I agree, people should have been out there helping out other people. If they are well enough to riot, rape and "find" then they are well enough to assist in evauations.

Um, he kind of is....he is the commander-in cheif. He is the one to call before any plans of deployment for troops or federal officals are followed.

Other people are definitely to blame too, but Bush is not out of the equation here either. Michael Brown was caught with his pants down, unfortunately his incompetence made this a very very deadly and tragic storm.

Jess....but you have to understand
these people were not only given no real help to start off...BY THEIR OWN MAYOR AND GOVENOR...

They are poor, uneducated people....who were put in a terrible situation of complete chaos...

again you are still proving my point that this sad situation was more an issue of POVERTY

I understand that so the government F'd up & Bush as the leader of our nation could have handled the situation in a differnt way. I'm not saying that he could have gone there the next day to show people his support, no of course not but what the heck took so long to get food there??? Water...help ingeneral. When the US sends food to other coutries we send in planes to do food drops....why wasn' that done? Those pepople on the highway waiting there for days??? Where was the help there???

Now you're talking about what the government and local officials SHOULD HAVE DONE - not the citizens.

The government cut millions of dollars in LA that was to go towards strengthening the levee's and evacuation plans, etc. There are A LOT of people to blame in this scenario...however I'd rather see resolution ans solutions before finger-pointing.

so i guess it makes it ok that htey are raping people and causing riots?
just cause they are poor doesnt mean they have to act like savages.

i am sure there are plenty of them (poor) helping out others.

It was a mess - the ball was dropped many times....there was no plan in effect and seems like no one knew what to do. People were all over with no help, I agree. I cant tell you waht the heck happened but it was bad! My point was just that this wasnt based on race...

There were armed men & women keeping them from returning

ETA: I don't know how much was covered here (I was in FLA at the time & the news there was very differnent than the national news), but the day after the storm they showed people approaching officals to help, they showed people trying lift eachother onto roof tops, and they showed people taking turns standing in line (before raiding started) to try & get supplies. Then the *looting* began. The very next day, they showed a bunch of people - civilians - standing on the airstrip in LA/NO with semi-automatic and automatic rifles they had raided from a store. The people took it upon themselves to become militia and were threatening to shoot down supply planes to steal the supplies. This delayed the rescue & help.

I didn't say there weren't any of them there...

But i dont' think you or i can imagine what they have been through....and to criticize them is wrong imo.
