Cold cuts

I just ordered a Chef's Salad for lunch and now think I'm not supposed to eat this. What's the problem with eating cold cuts?

Re: Cold cuts

I received a handout at the dr's from the FDA that says you should avoid all cold cuts unless steaming hot during pregnancy because of listeria. Listeria occurs in the plant where the cold cuts are packaged, not at the deli, so a reputable place has nothing to do with it.

With that said, I have ate cold cuts (usually from Quiznos) and I'm still alive ;)

Re: Cold cuts

Listeria is the issue when you are talking about cold cuts...

Most of us have had Listeria at one time or another..kind of like when you eat something that doesnt quite agree with you. The problem with Listeria is more that should you give birth and pass the Listeria on to the newborn baby that it becomes an issue...We can fight off the infection no problem but not so much for a baby.

My doctor has always said that cold cuts in general are fine..moderation of course b/c of the sodium..but to avoid cold cuts at a buffet where bacteria has had time to grow..you are better off sticking with items that are kept hot/cold...

My sister had Listeria when she had my niece..they treated the baby right away without waiting for the test to come back...She would up not having it though.
