Colic Questions

I know this topic has been covered before, but I am looking to get some advice on my colicky baby. Noah is only happy when he is asleep, as is his Mommy and Daddy! Last night he screamed from 11.30 to 3.15 am...then slept soundly until 10 am...he is almost 3 weeks old!!!

I have had the Midwife & Health Visitor round to my house this week and they both agree that Baby Noah is suffering from Colic...We have been trying loads of different things, bicycling his legs, Infacol Drops, an ounce of warm water, and I have switched from Avent Bottles to Dr Brown's bottles (which, by the way are a total rip off here in the UK...at Target on Long Island they are $13.99 for a starter set and I paid £17.99 for the starter set in the UK this week...thats almost $30!!)

Do any of you wise mommies have any advice that you can share with me? My husband is going back to work next week and I would love to have my peachy creamy baby back for my first week on my own!!!

Thanks in advance...

Re: Colic Questions

There was just something on the news about this this morning - they recommended making sure your baby does not have a milk allergy, etc. before assuming it is colic. Have you discussed that possibility with the ped.?

Re: Colic Questions

I will speak to my GP about a milk allergy...thanks for that.

I probably should have mentioned that Noah is bottlefed breast milk...

Does anyone think I should try some formula to see if that makes him feel a little better?

TIA...again

You may also need to watch what you are eating -- for some breastfed babies there are problems if mom has milk, tomatoes, etc. Not fun at all!!!

Re: Colic Questions

Unfortunately the best most honest advice I heard when I was going through the colic stage is not what you want to hear.

"Only time will help colic. "

At around 3 -4 months it will subside. However we did try everything and some things worked sometimes and not all the time. What really helped us was the FP aquarium swing. I would put the music on very loud and he would swing away. They need to be distracted. Sometimes I would rock him facing outwards in front of the tv, running water in the bathroom. Walks helped and so did the car but his colic time like yours was at night.

Otherwise patience and help. Whether you are there or not he will have his colic time so leave him with a relative or friend and get out.

The colic is over for us but my baby is still very fussy and gassy but not screaming.

Re: Colic Questions

Formula helped with my son. I switched from BF to formula at 9 weeks and his mood, sleeping, eating habits changed for the better.

To help him cope we went for drives (he slept in the car) and I carried him around in a baby bjorn which he also liked. He also slept the best when he was laying on my chest...

Good luck!! Chat Icon

Re: Colic Questions

Here some things my cousin did when her son was colic:
If you are BF watch what you eat (broccoli is a big one)
Wrap him in a blanket so his arms and legs can't move.
Take his clothes off and hold him skin to skin.
Hope you can find something that helps out!

Sarah had colic and the only thing that worked was to tune the radio to static or to pull the cable cord out and let the tv play static. The noise is similar to what they heard while you were pregnant and calms them down. DH and I learned to fall asleep to it too!

Re: Colic Questions

I use to watch a baby from 6weeks old to 1year ..he had colic I did a web search on ways to soothe him and it said white noise so i use to put him in his seat glider and have the radio between station (static) and rock him I can't tell you how that saved my life and his mothers ... Fennel seed bottles also helped Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
