Colicky 5 week old, tempermental 19 mos. old, and crazy mommy need help...
I hardly ever post and when I do everyone seems so nice and helpful. I really just need someone to keep telling me everything will be ok. I am ready to lose my mind since I am running on 2 hours of sleep every nigt with colicky baby and a jealous 19 mos. Just got back from doc and he is helathy but has colic caused by gas (they think and so do I) the poor guy grunts, arches his back, screams in agaony all day and night. Nothing has worked thus far, miracle blanket, every baby toy (bouncer, etc.), He is so fussy. I tried mylicon drops no success, am trying gripe water today. I know it should get better in a month or 2 right? Please anyone go through this how did you survive? How did you get through it? I am at my wits end. TIA Hope this makes snese since I am on an hr of sleep.

Sorry you are going through that. I know EXACTLY how you feel and sound like me!!
Honestly in my opinion (and I'm not a dr.) if he's screaming all day and night I tend to think its more than colic. Both my DC were screamers and showed improvement with nutrimagin/alimentium. Have you tried changing formulas? or diet if BF'ing?
I will say it has gotten better at 7 weeks but we figured out that DS has silent reflux and is on medication and Alimentium formula. DD, who is 19 months, is finally starting to get used to all the changes around here - although she still has her moments!!!
Can anyone help you? I recruited alot of help the first 6 weeks. It was impossible for me to do alone.
Hope it gets better for you soon

My sister's little girl just ended her colic. She swears by camomile tea. My sister was a little hesitant (And this is her 3rd) but the baby's gastro dr. told her it was ok. It calms the belly. Sometimes old home remedies help. Start brewing!!

I know what you mean and i only dealt with it for a weekend. All of a sudden by happy, eating and sleeping machine DS was irritable, crying and just miserable.
Turns out he was very gassy and has acid reflux (he had all the signs, including the arching of the back & grunting). We now have him on Similac Alimentum (good for colic and gas) and zantac 3 times a day and he's back to being his happy self.
does he have any symptoms of acid reflux? have you tried switching the formula?

My son was colicky also, so you have lots of from me. It's rough, and especially if you have an older child too.
It sounds as if he is crying a lot, even for colic. Mine was miserable from about 4pm till 10, but the rest of the day he was usually okay.
Cammomile tea was recommended for us also. Honestly, I can't tell that it helped much, maybe a little. I would consider switching formula or your diet if BFing also to help with the gas. And moving his legs to his chest and in a bicycle motion might help with that too. Did your doctor consider reflux? It sounds as if that could be a possibility.
If it's colic, it will go away. DSs did by 4 or 4.5 months, not all at once, but gradually. Now, he is a different baby altogether. Good luck and hang in there, it will get easier!

Rylan was sooo colicky...I cried many days and nights along with him. I felt like it was never gonna end but it did at around 3 months.
He was also soooo gassy in the beggining and Similac Sensative was a godsend for us. We were also told by the hospital to give him .06ml of Mylicon 10 minutes before feedings...it works better that way. Not sure if it's true or not.
As far as the colic went nothing really helped us...we just had to wait it out.

As for the jealous 19 month old, When I brought home DS#2, my oldest was 20 months old and he hated me. It was heartbreaking. My advice is to take as much help as is offered. Not for your toddler, for the baby. Give your older one as much attention you can (I know its hard).
It WILL get better.

My first was colicky and I saw improvements by 3 months...
My 2nd wasn't colicky but they are 20 months apart and I couldn't imagine if she was... We had some rough times with regular newborn stuff and running on little to no sleep so I know how you are feeling... Hang in there, it gets better
