Colposcopy
Soo... after the accupuncurist my OB calls to tell me my cervix wants to see him again... My pap came back irregular and I have to have a colposcopy - which I had last July with my GYN. I have HPV so this will continue for a while.... totally *****.

Re: Colposcopy
Happens to me once a year!! I have to visit the OBGYN every 6 months and every other time I need a Colp. I hate them!!
Sorry you are going through yet ANOTHER hurdle!! Stay strong!!

Re: Colposcopy
Hi Kara - Sorry about the OB. I have had the same thing...they should be putting some medication on your cervix to clear that up assuming that when the Colposcopy is done...no cells light up. Have you had the LEEP yet?

Re: Colposcopy
Hmmm I don't think so -- what is the LEEP?
Last time I was scheduled for a colposcopy, when by GYN went in, she couldn't see any abnormal cells to test!!

that is excellent! A LEEP is when they remove abnormal cells after the colposcopy comes back. It's a good thing not to have one!

Re: Colposcopy
That's really odd...my Gyno just took biopsy's from different areas. I ended up having to have a conal biopsy, there were enough Stage 3 cells that they wanted to get everything out.
Good luck, hopefully they find nothing again!

Did they take the biopsy's during the Colposcopy?

Re: Colposcopy
OH boy Kara, I'm sorry! I know what you're going through, I've been there myself with the same thing. I hope its not too bad and this time it stays away. I know I was goign to the OBGYN every 3 months instead of once a year! It sucked...but now for a couple of years (knock on wood) Ive been OK.
It should not effect your ability to get PG at all!!
ETA: If you OBGYN cannt "see" any abnormal cells then they should redo the pap and see what the results are again. If still abnormal, tell her to take a biopsy (biopsies) on what she does see and test that.
GOOD LUCK!

Re: Colposcopy
Thanks gals -- well my OB is MUCH more thorough than my GYN was so I am sure he will get the biopsy -- which I hope is neg. as it was last year.
Yes I know it doesn't affect my ttc efforts, but it's just so uncomfortable.....
Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!!

Just FYI - They should only take a biopsy if an area of cells light up...if not...then no biopsy. I'm hoping for a "dark" cervix for you!

Re: Colposcopy
Good luck! Its nothing, just a little uncomfortable. I had a LOT of them, followed by biopsies. Early pre cancerous cells, which come in stages are very easily treated, as long as you dont put it off....The Leep is actually less painful then the colposcopy, which is weird since they take more of the cervix cells off.
I developed stage 2 cervical cancer because I put off my Leep for so long( I was scared)...I ended up with a cone biopsy( where they remove all the cancer) or a part ( tip) of the cerviz to stop if from spreading...
but again, rest assured this is the easiest treated cancer and pre cancer of them all.
I have had 6 clean paps ever since...so I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you! I have a good feeling. I let mine go almost 5 years from my first bad biopsy and time is the only thing here that matters....once they catch it, the Dr's are very good at getting rid of it..

Re: Colposcopy
2 of my friends had these procedures, 1 had a colposcopy and one had the LEEP. Both were told that they would actually be more fertile following their procedures...one was PG within three months of the procedure- sorry you have to have this done-but maybe there is a bright side to it (in addition to removing possible precancerous cells)
