Coming Home from Hospital

I know that you shouldn't use a onesie undershirt b/c of the belly button. I have a side snap undershirt. But I was planning on putting her in a body suit with a pants and jacket. Will this be okay?

Re: Coming Home from Hospital

i think that will be fine. i have heard that the rule of thumb is dress your baby in one more layer than you would dress yourself for the weather.

we put DS in a onesie, we were never told not to. the t-shirts always rode up on him and i was afraid he would be cold.

i always made sure that his onesies were white, though - his umbilical cord stump did bleed a little and the white onesies were easiest to clean (bleach).

Dd I put one of those t-shirt snap on side tops and a one piece outfit and her belly button was fine (it was loose so it wasnt a constant tight rub)..

this baby bought the same type of outfit so doign same. Not going to put jacket on, just going to bring a few blankets to cover baby with, Ill be sitting in back seat with her/him so it will be safe.

Onesies are fine - I think some people use the others more for comfort. But you can use a onesie right away - just don't have a tight one on.

BTW it is always interesting to me to see what advise others are told. My ped told us to dress DD as we would dress ourselves. (I had always heard the one layer more than you would put on - but he told me that is an old wives tale).

Re: Coming Home from Hospital

I don't know if it's because DS was itty bitty (5 lbs) or just because it's all newborns, but I found getting the onsie on annoying in the beginning. It's so much easier to put the shirt flat then lay the baby in it. Putting the onsie over the head made me nervous until DS had better neck control. It wasn't so much the umbilical cord stump as a reason for the shirt for us, it was just easier to dress DS.
