Re: Communion Question

100 dollars? It seems like so much to give a child for a communion. I mean maybe for family..
So I guess a 50 dollar bond is to little?

Well if you give a $100 savings bond it only costs you $50. and by the time they can use the bond they are an adult.

IMO $100 is not alot to give a child. The average gift for my son's baptism was much much more then that.

Re: Communion Question

You can buy a $100 bond for $50 but truthfully I think a $50 bond is okay too. Is it family?

Re: Communion Question

If there are 4of you going to the aprty I think $100 bond is more thanr easonable. it's only going to cost you $50. Keep in mind, you're not usually giving a child money, this will likely later be used for college or in my case a wedding, etc etc. Especially since ti won't mature for years, this isn't going to be toy money

Re: Communion Question

DH and I went to a family friend's communion last week. We gave $125. Now, I think most of us realize that this money is NOT going to the kid NOW. Mom and/or Dad will hold on to the money until the child is older.

We thought that $100 was the average Communion gift. We went a little higher because this couple gave us a generous wedding gift last year.

I usually spend $100 on a bond that matures to $200.

I remember asking my Dad, years later where my communion money was and he said "Who do you think paid for 3rd grade"Chat Icon Chat Icon (I was in Catholic School)

You should not worry about people thinking you are cheap. Personally, I think that is a generous gift. I've asked some friends today and where I live, it seems to be the normal gift for a child's communion.
