Comparing fast food
I was just talking with a friend who's DH won't let their kid eat at Mc Donalds (even though I listed all of the the healthier options) but will let her eat pizza. I think having a fruit and walnut salad or salad with grilled chicken is a lot healthier than pizza. Thoughts?

If you can get your kid to eat a salad, then I guess its better than pizza. But I don't see a slice of pizza as being that unhealthy

Not necessarily - those salads are ok for the most part, but when you add the fat and calories from the dressing, you might as well eat a big mac.
Pizza isn't so bad - as long as it isn't too greasy, all you're talking about it cheese, tomato sauce and crust.

I think when you take a kid to mcdonalds they are not going to want to eat the grilled chicken salad. If I am going to feed dc a salad I would probably make it myself.

Why not? My son loves grilled chicken. My life is all about being on the run, but I want my kids to know there are still healthy choices out there.

ITA.
I remember seeing a story on the Today show a hile back on how the "healthier" options at many chain restaurants aren't healthy at all.
The turkey burger at Ruby Tuesdays had more fat grams than an adult should eat in an ENTIRE day. Calories, it was about 1200. That's just for the burger, never mind if one orders fries with it, soda, etc.
DH and I never eat fast food and the kids have yet to. I'll cross that bridge but I don't see us going very often unless it's a b-day party or something.

ITA. And I usually order veggie pizzas for them anyway.

Re: Comparing fast food
I feel like anything in moderation is fine. So at the rare times we find ourselves at a McDs or similiar DD gets whatever she wants including the fries which she loves.
I will say that pizza is a favorite in our house and I really dont consider it to be a horrible food for a picky toddler!

I agree. Moderation is key. This way no one feels deprived and starts healthy eating habits without overindulging.

Re: Comparing fast food
We eat a lot of pizza around here and I don't find it terribly unhealthy. I do think you can go to MCD though and order chicken nuggets with apples and a milk and it's probably healthier than all that cheese.
