Comparing Scarsdale to Great Neck South...
Just curious if anyone has insights to share. Both offer train rides into Manhattan that are less than a half hour, and great schools -- my two primary criteria. Now what about the rest?

I'm pretty sure the schools in Scardsale are some of the best in the country -
IMO - Great Neck is a nice area, but it doesn't compare to Scarsdale .........

I agree!! My boss lives in Scarsdale (I love it there) and I know that in his area you will not find a house cheaper than $3mil......Great Neck is much more reasonable....

Re: Comparing Scarsdale to Great Neck South...
My Dh grew up in Scarsdale & we lived there briefly & now live in the next town.
You may find houses that come up as Scarsdale, but aren't in the village of Scarsdale. Those may be less slightly expensive, and the areas are fine.
However, those may be in Eastchester, Edgemont, or Yonkers schools.
Edgemont is actually the one that is always on those best schools lists. Scarsdale & Eastchester are very good districts too.
Most people that live in the are that has a Scarsdale PO, but falls into the Yonkers district, send their kids to Catholic school.

Scarsdale is a great town, but very ritzy. I teach in Purchase and the population is similar. Very wealthy, not always that friendly.

I love Scarsdale. We looked there and opted for Chappaqua because we got more land for our $$ and that was important to DH. I think Scarsdale would be an easier lifestyle over Great Neck if you have to commute into the city. Grand Central is pretty easy to navigate through- slightly easier that Penn, jmo.

Re: Comparing Scarsdale to Great Neck South...
Just thought I'm bump up my old thread to get some new opinions, since we still haven't settled on a place to live. We are currently renting in Scarsdale and haven't found a house to buy yet. So we are considering looking in Great Neck too. It seems to me that the houses in Great Neck are newer/better condition for the same price and that the taxes are lower, but thats just on paper. Has anyone else house hunted in these two towns?
