Computer people- I need a router-Updtd*- Another question
I need to get it tonight (so i haven't had any time to do any real research). We want a wireless router with at least 4 ports (perferably 5 if they exist). I really know nothing about routers, and was hoping you could tell me what i should look for, and any suggestions for specific ones.
We had a linksys 2-port (non-wireless) for the past few years and it just crapped out on us.
Thanks
*******2nd Question*******
Even if the router is wireless, can you still hook something up to it that isn't wireless? (ex: the desktop would need to be plugged into it w/ a wire, but the laptop is wireless- would that work?)

Re: Computer people- I need a router
Stick with a linksys.
They are reliable, affordable and easy to manage.
You aren't going to find a 5+ port though - well, not in the same price range.
What's the 5th node? If it's a printer, just share it.
If you really want to go with something else - you can try the D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) - it seems to be getting good reviews.

Re: Computer people- I need a router
I would also go with a Linksys. I've always liked them. Can you just get some wireless cards for some of the hardwired devices? All of the Linksys routers at BestBuy have only 4 ports. If you get a wireless card for some of the computers, you don't need a port.

We're def going to stick with the Linksys, but i have another question.

Yes. Most wireless routers have a couple of ports on them for non-wireless devices.

Re: Computer people- I need a router-Updtd*- Another question
I have a linksys wireless router. My laptop connects wirelessly, and my two desktops connect with a wire. There's no problem having a mix of wired and wireless.
