Comsewogue district
what are your thoughts?
i had heard it was good but the ratings show it in the 68th percentile-- below eastport south manor/ connetquot/ wading river/ etc

All I will say is Eh. I grew up and attended Northport Schools until my senior year, my father moved me to this district and it was night and day compared to Northport.
I'm sure I'm being a bit unfair but there is NO WAY I would choose Comsewogue over Northport. And from what I understand now more than ever, there is a lot of gang activity and violence. In the year I was there a young girl ( in my grade) was murdered by a fellow classmate in cold blood....
Yeah, it's safe to say, I don't recommend the district.

When did you graduate? There was one awful incident in 1996, but awful things can happen anywhere...

I think anyone who lived in Northport has a spoiled view. I would pick Northport over any district too!!!! But I have to say Northport has issue we just covered them up better than other places

haha i agree. apparently there was a heroin issue in 1996/1997? who knew! i know there was acid and pot...

You are talking about incidents that happened almost 20 years ago.
20 years ago, any district anywhere had issues. There are issues everywhere even today. To continue stigmatizing a district for things from almost 2 decades ago seems silly, and does not paint an accurate picture especially if you no longer live in the district.
Comsewogue is a perfectly fine district - not the top 10, and certainly not the worst.

There were a tons of pills around when I was there back in the dark ages but I knew so many people who went to jail for other crimes.

They have an amazing superintendent who supports his teachers and is against high stakes testing. Went to a rally he put together 2 summers ago.

I didn't see the question of Northport Vs Comsewogue?? I would choose Npt over that anyday. I grew up in E. Northport.
Yes, gangs and violence, drugs are EVERYWHERE!!!!! Good and bad school districts. The good districts have them too, they just cover it up, because they don't want the publicity and their district stigmatized.

@diane- the ones that mentioned Npt HS just happened to all grow up in ENpt/ Npt so it got compared. I think i should just wait & scheme and plan and save and convince DW to move there. :)

Comsewogue district
We just moved to Port Jeff Station and May and love the area. My kids are only 3 but from what I have heard the district is good. We have great neighbors and a lot of property for what we paid.

I would really not judge a school district by one incident that happened in 1996. That literally has nothing to do with the school district now.
Sadly, this is one of the ways that good districts get stigmatized. They are judged by one incident that could, unfortunately, happen anywhere.
