Concerns about DD's writing?
Can anyone tell me if this is something I should be concerned about or if it is normal 4 year old development?
My DD is in pre-k and I notice that she comes home with lots of worksheets/drawings, where she will write her name backwards, such as, she starts on the right side of the page and writes to the left, or ,she will start her name in the middle of the page, run out of space and then put the remaining letters of her name on the other side of the page. Her teacher hasn't said anything to me but then again, I feel her teacher is very young and inexperienced so I feel like she may not be catching these things?
Just was seeing whether or not I should be requesting an OT eval for her or if this is normal for a 4 year old.
Thanks!

Totally normal. DD did this as well (almost exactly as you described) in Pre-k and even K. She is in 2nd now and writes just fine. She still gets her d's, b's mixed up sometimes, but I still think that's normal.

Re: Concerns about DD's writing?
Totally normal until around age 7. Two of my kids did this - they would write in mirror image when they were 4 and 5. They are actually both extremely bright kids if that makes you feel any better!

Re: Concerns about DD's writing?
My 4 year old does similar things when writing his name. Seems normal for that age!

Re: Concerns about DD's writing?
Does she read sentences consistently from R to L?
I find that kids who write their name before they read sentences see their name as a picture... or a collection of pictures until they really read.

Not reading yet, I am trying to show her sight words to Identify at this point, so that makes sense thanks!

totally normal for that age. However, I would correct and when you read to hear use your finger and let her track your finger.
