Conflicting info on cold meds?
So I started to come down with a cold yesterday, which has gotten a lot worse today -- sore throat, mild cough, and very congested (I can't smell anything). I have a list of approved meds from my OB/GYN office but it includes meds on it that several places on-line say are not safe/recommended for pregnant women. List from doc says Robitussin, Robitussin DM, and Robitussin CF are all fine as long as they are alcohol-free. List does NOT include Sudafed, which many places on-line says is fine. I'm so confused -- what can I take so that I can breath out of my nose?!?!?

Take what your dr approves....they typically create those lists out of experience. While pregnant I really try to stick to homeopathic solutions....whenever I feel a cold come on I take honey and cinnamon(2tsps of local grown honey to 1/4 tsp of cinnamon) natural flu shot and decaf tea...two tea bags for a mug with lemon and honey....usually good within two days of symptoms starting. Natural flu shot= two teaspoons of Apple cider vinegar, tsp of grated fresh ginger, half a juice of lemon, splash of water, tsp of honey, 1/4 tsp of cinnamon and dash of cayenne pepper(trust me it sounds and does taste nasty...but 3 shot glasses full a day for a day of two are well worth not being sick)

Re: Conflicting info on cold meds?
There are so many conflicting reports on everything it drives me crazy. Some doctors are so lax and others are a little bit more strict. When I was sick with my first DD I got really sick and the Dr told me Sudafed was ok. When DH went to get it, the pharmacist wouldn't give it to him. I ended up taking an antibiotic bc it ended up getting worse.

How far along are you? Some meds aren't recommended in the first trimester.
For me, personally, whenever I'm sick and pregnant, I just suffer through on cough drops. But I don't even like taking meds when I'm not pg.
ETA: And I use saline spray for a stuffed nose.

I feel your pain. Woke up with an awful cough. The only thing my doc approves is plain robitussin, which isn't doing much

Re: Conflicting info on cold meds?
If you didn't have the internet you would go by what your dr says. Sometimes I think the Internet is the worst thing to happen to us. I would listen to your dr. I am sure he is going off experience. I'd try not to take anything if I didn't have to, but i know in my case my allergies get so bad that I get horrible sinus infections. For me congestion could lead to serious consequences. So I have had to take Clariton from time to time and if I get a head cold I may have to take something.

Conflicting info on cold meds?
So I have been congested for weeks. I told my OB last week at my AP and he said since my blood pressure is normal to take Sudafed. I took it a few times since then. I haven't had any issues. I take it before bed. I was at the point where I couldn't breathe at night and was a hot mess so I needed something. GL
