Confused- Dr. appt
Hi -So I went to see Dr. Brenner yesterday. ( this was because of my twin misscarraige). I told him I wanted to start again, what do you recommend I do. He said having the recurrent miscarraige panel bloodwork was not necessary and he also said PDG was not really necessary as well. He went on to say that For this to happen again( down syndrome- that was why I miscarried) was very unlikely to happen again, even though it is very common. He did recommend That I go to a genetic counselor. I have 8 frozen and if I want i can use them or stim again. Advice / thoughts on what I should do. TIA.

Re: Confused- Dr. appt
I lost my last pregnancy to downs syndrome. It is not indicative of any other issues, you do not genetically carry it. Were both babies DS or just one?
I am sorry, I do not know how old you are, or if you previously posted that. There are alot of variables.
I would have the recurrent miscarriage panel run anyway, including MTHFR it's bloodwork, it's not going to hurt anything, you don't have to be pregnant for it and it's not invasive. I would rather know before I proceeded with anything, after the m/c's if there could be possibly something else, just in case.
As far as the PGD, it's a personal decision. We plan on doing it, but I am 40.
Good luck.

Re: Confused- Dr. appt
It only took one chemical/ectopic for me to know that I never want to go through that every again if I could avoid it. DH and I have chosen to do PGD which can detect chomosomal abnormalities (including Downs). It is expensive but 95% realiability is worth it to me if can save me the pain an heartache in the future. Our doctor supported our decision.

I agree. I had one m/c and had the panel done by my ob/gyn. I found out I have MTHFR and the m/c probably could have been prevented.

I wouldn't assume anything then since you lost the other twin as well....alot of times vanishing twin happens a little earlier than 9 weeks, but I guess it can happen.
I would insist on a full recurrent miscarriage panel, and have DH do a full work up as well to make sure he is not a carrier of anything either. It is better to check and know. Make sure they check for the MTHFR as well.
Sometimes I think if these dr.'s were the ones that had the miscarriages, they would order the panel to be done alot sooner.
ALso, I would probably do PGD as well, if you have the money. But would I would do is another retrieval, see what you get, possibly thaw the others and have them all PGD in a batch.

Re: Confused- Dr. appt
I think the genetic counselor and genetic testing for both you and DH can't hurt. I would also ask for the recurrent loss testing (it's just blood tests) eventhough Dr. B isn't recommending it. Your age puts you at at a slightly higher risk of having a baby with DS so PGD would take care of that concern. Best of luck!
