Contact lens wearers
So, I am blind as a bat and wear my lenses daily. I have glasses, but I feel much better (like I see better) in lenses. When I went to the eye doc, he told me that my eyes were looking very tired from lens overuse and that I had to wear glasses (esp. since I'm an editor!) at least 2 or 3 days a week, which I have been doing. He said tons of people overuse their lenses. Although I have done no damage yet, I'm scared that I will. I'm not a Lasik candidate, either...and the surgery I can get (Pr K or something?!) is too scary for me! So...I am wearing my glasses as much as I can. How about you? How often do you wear yours??? (I also change my contacts every 2 weeks.) Edit: Also, I DO NOT sleep with them at night!

Re: Contact lens wearers
I used to wear my contacts all the time...but I started to get very slight headaches and began wearing my glasses more often. Now, I wear my glasses all week at work and just wear contacts on the weekend. I have the 2 week lenses also...I probably wear them for a month and then toss them since I'm only wearing them about 2 days out of the week.

Once I get home from work, contacts come out and glasses on. Days off from work if I am not doing anything I have my glasses on.

Re: Contact lens wearers
I wear daily contacts. During the week, they are in a good 12-15 hours. On the weekends, if we're not going anywhere, I really try to stay in my glasses all day.

Re: Contact lens wearers
I'm bad. I wear my contacts pretty much everyday. I really should start wearing my glasses a few days a week. When I used to work (now I'm a SAHM) I used to try to wear them on cloudy/rainy days. I do feel like I see better with my contacts - especially when driving.

Re: Contact lens wearers
I am also blind as a bat and I know that I wear my contacts wayyyy to much. I'll even fall asleep in them at night. I'd love to get Lasik but I'm not a candidate for it. Glasses are so uncomfortable for me too. I wish there was another answer!

I take mine off as soon as I come home, too...but that's at like 6:30!

Re: Contact lens wearers
I have the same issue. My vision is AWFUL. If my contacts aren't in, I wouldn't be able to find my glasses. Plus, I'm also not a lasik candidate. I just went to the eye MD this past weekend b/c my eye is irritated. She told me I overwear the contacts as well (I wear them all day long and take them off at night to watch TV at home). I've been restricted to glasses this week and I HATE it. I like to wear my big sunglasses.

It sounds like we are in the same boat. I am practically blind without my lenses and wear them all the time. I take them off at night and wear my glasses around the house. I change my lenses every two weeks too. My brother was not a candidate for Lasik and had PRK and it was very painful and a big recovery for him, so I don't know if I would go that route for myself.

I wear my contacts all the time...I will not leave the house without them...I wear glasses as well, but only right before bed and when i wake up in the morning... Last year my eyes started to get really red and irritated...my dr told me my contacts were drying out my eyes...so I switched to a lens that lets more oxygen into my eyes, as well as a different solution...my eyes have been fine ever since. Maybe that is something you should look into

Re: Contact lens wearers
My eyes are really bad and I feel the same as you... I just don't like wearing my glasses. I usually have my contacts in from 7am to 11pm every day. I use the 2-week lenses also so I change them every 2 weeks. I have been wearing them since 8th grade and have never been told anything about over using them. The next time I got get an eye exam i'm going to ask about that!
I could never wear my glasses to work, I don't even feel comfortable wearing them to drive. But I guess I would get used to it if I had to.
The ONLY time I had to wear my glasses for a week straight was when I had pink eye in college!

Re: Contact lens wearers
I am really bad. I wear my contact all day until right before I got to bed (usually about 16 hours). I have 2 week contacts but I wear them much longer than I should. My Dr yells at me but he's never said that it has caused any damage. I always thought wearing them too much and too long would increase risk of infection and/or dry them out.

Re: Contact lens wearers
the last time i wore my glasses to drive i hit a parked car. yes, sadly, it was parked and not moving
i have no depth perception with my glasses on. i wear my contacts from when i wake up (6:30) until i go to bed to read (anywhere from 9:30-1:00am)
never had any problems and NEVER slept with them on
can you try different contact lenses? like dailies, or weeklys?

I hit a pole. And no...that pole sure wasn't moving! ha ha! I just switched to Oasys; they are better, but in general, I need to wear glasses more. Let the eyes breathe.

I was just told the exact same thing last week. I wear my contacts about 14hrs+ a day whihc is a huge nono but I am beyond blind too. My contacts are 9.5 and 10.5 if that tells you anything and I was just told that I have blood vessels starting to make their way to my cornea. If they reach the cornea, you need a cornea transplant and I am not a candidate for LASIK either like you. I just ordered new funky frames and starting next week I will be wearing them to work at least 3 days a week so my eyes get more oxygen.
I pray my kids get my husbands perfect eyesight and not mine!!!!

I put my contacts in at 5:45AM and they come out at 11PM. I use the disposables and change every 3 weeks. I HATE wearing glasses though.

i have terrible eyesight and like you, feel i see better with my contacts. i have the accuvue oasis and change them religiously every 2 weeks. i try to take them out when i get home, but it doesn't always happen. i do try to wear my glasses 2 days/week to 'rest' my eyes, but its hard

Re: Contact lens wearers
I wear my contacts every, day all day. I also use the two week disposables. I take them out each night and put them in after I shower in the morning. I try to wear my glasses more often, but I don't like them and they don't fit right (and I've brought them back a few times to get fitted.) they still slide off my nose when I look down. Hence I wear my contacts, plus I need to wear sunglasses outside and I can't with my glasses.

Re: Contact lens wearers
I don't wear them but DH does. he wear contacts most of the time. on weekends in the morning he'll wear his glasses for a few hours until he showers, then he puts the contacts in. sometimes at night he will take out his contacts and put his glasses on. he says he likes to give his eyes a break from them.

Re: Contact lens wearers
I am the worst contact lens wearer ever. I put them in and don't take them out until they either fall out, or bug me way too much that I HAVE to take them out.

Re: Contact lens wearers
I wear them everyday but TRY to give my eyes a break on Sundays unless I'm doing something outside the house. Sometimes I take them out when I get home from work but most of the time I wear them 7:15am-10pm. I also try to remember to toss them after 2 weeks.

Re: Contact lens wearers
In the past I wore them every day but always took them out when I got home from work. I never go to the point where I didn't feel them, even after years of use. They were comfortable but never 100% for me.
Then, one of my friends went for the lasik and was told that sometimes contacts damage the eyes after years and years of use and then they are not a candidate for lasik. I plan on getting lasik after the wedding, so NOW I wear my glasses every day and I only wear contacts when I go out at night or if I want to wear my sunglasses.
I can't wait for the lasik. I forgot to wear contacts to go for my hair and makeup trials and I was blind for the entire trial. I HATE that uneasy, uncomfortable feeling I get when I can't see. I also can't hear when I can't see ( KWIM?) and I feel VERY awkward - I hate it!
