Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
I was there today and noticed that Dr. Paone is no longer there. I just saw him last Thursday, and today his name had been taken off everything! Does anyone know why he left and where he went?

Re: Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
I was there tonight and waited 2 hours to see Dr.Mckenna!! I have been with their practice for 6 years and never had to wait so long. One girl got up and asked for her records.
Dr Paone has unfortunately left and is now in a hospital in Brooklyn. CWC and OB/Gyn Specialties(the practice 1 floor below them) will be doing what is called cross coverage which means many of us here will not be delivering with our own OB's Just in time for me to be 3 cm dilated and ready to deliver soon I am really upset but what are you going to do??
The doctors in the other practice are:
Jerry Wider Charles Mann Michael Gentilesco Morissa Marin Lisa Amorin
If anybody here uses them please enlighten us CWC girls

Re: Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
Wow 2 hours??? That is horrible! One thing I love about CWC is how well the office is run. I have never had to wait too long, and when I have an emergency, they can always squeeze me in.
I saw the sign today about the merge with the other group. I think if you have a planned c-section or induction, you can have your preferred doctor, right? Well maybe the merge will cut down on wait times.
I will miss Dr. Paone!! I wish he had told me last Thursday that he was leaving.

I don't know if my body can hold out another 2 weeks. I am 3 cm dilated already and soft. I would prefer Dr Rubin for an induction and I just hope I can reach the 39 week mark. This is just real sh*tty timing for me

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I'm so upset - I can't believe he left. I have a small feeling Dr. McKenna may have been the cause.

Are they merging forever or just until they find another doctor to replace Paone?

Re: Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
I heard he left in the middle of the summer< I guess not. but a friend of mine knew he was leaving since july that she told me. (gosh he must have a strong following ) I also heard he got married or is getting married (forgot). so let's stop drooling, girls. He's the best. what a sweet guy and great Dr. I wonder what happened at the practice.
I waited VERY long for Dr. McKenna once, lucky I really like him, or i would have flipped. he's a riot to be in the OR with.

Dr Mckenna said they wouldn't be hiring another Dr anytime soon and it seems they are looking for someone fresh out of school. So I think this arrangement may be for a long while...........
Paone is married and expecting his first child in Feb.

Re: Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
There is always a long wait for Dr. Mckenna. He is very chatty.
Dr. Paone left to teach at SUNY Downstate - he and his wife are expecting a baby, this is a 9-5 job.
Apparently the other practice has someone leaving also, so thats why they decided to do the coverage thing. I'm not really all that happy about it either, I don't want someone I have never seen before delivering my babies.

Re: Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
I go there as well, and met Dr. Paone for the first time at my second OB visit, which was in August. He was very nice. I have always seen Dr. Rubin and I just love her. Dr. Mckenna is also really good, he did my first OB appointment. He sat with me and my Dh for awhile, which was nice. I met Dr. Escamilla this past Monday and she also seemed nice. I really like this practice, and have never waited longer then 15 minutes in the waiting room. I also don't go at peek hours, so that could be why. It does stink that I possibly might have to have a doctor I have never seen before deliver me, but Dr. Mckenna assured me that all the doctors in the other practice where really good. I actually know someone who goes to Dr. Mann and she raves about him.

I use them currently and used them for DD as well. I have to admit that when I went for my 20 week this past weekend, I wasn't thrilled to read about the cross-coverage. The one thing that put me a bit at ease is that I have heard so many girls from hear speak so highly of the practice
There has been a lot of change going on in their office - two of the doctors left and they hired one new doctor. The thing that really bothers me is that I really don't want someone that I never met before doing major surgery on me. I will be able to schedule my section with my preferred doctor but if I go early like I did with DD, then it is a total crapshoot. When I was expecting the first time, they made such a big deal about you scheduling visits with all of the doctors so that you could meet all of them not knowing who would be on call when you delivered - I guess that doesn't matter now.
I want to see if it is possible to atleast meet with the drs in your practice since there is a chance that they will be delivering for me. If not, I might look into changing practices.

While I'm not happy, (I really like Paone), I'll go with the flow. Hopefully I can meet all the docs before the birth.
P.S. even with Paone there I've always waited a while. Joys of evening apts.!!!

Re: Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
They are only doing coverage for deliveries at the hospital, not appts, so how would we get to meet the other doctors I don't see how that's possible....

I am planning on calling and specifically asking. I figure that if they can do this to make their lives a little easier, I should atleast be able to schedule an interview type appointment with them - similar to what we all do with interviewing pediatricians. After all, this was their decision, not mine.

Re: Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
I wanted to add 2 things:
1) I know a few women who go to the other practice and they really like it.
2) When my mom had me, a doctor she had never met before delivered me. He was brand new to the practice, I was his first delivery there. She loved him so much, he wound up being her regular doctor.
Oh and one more thing (ok so three things I wanted to add) that really doesn't have much to do with anything but, I think my friend was Dr. Paone's last delivery, she delivered at 9:30 pm on Sunday.

The doctors in the other practice are:
Jerry Wider Charles Mann Michael Gentilesco Morissa Marin Lisa Amorin
If anybody here uses them please enlighten us CWC girls
I use this practice, and I couldn't love these doctors anymore. Dr. Gentilesco is my main OBGYN. He and Dr. Mann were both on the list of top physicians that was printed in newsday a few months back. Dr. Marin delivered my daughter on 10/2/07, and she was absolutely fabulous. Dr. Wider does not deliver any longer. He just does regular care now I believe. Dr. Amorin is the young new doctor. I was admitted to the hospital at 36 weeks with food poisoning, severely dehydrated and having contractions as a result. She was the physician on call and took amazing care of me. I was hesitant at first because I had only met her once, but she really did a great job.
If anyone has any questions about the practice, I'd be happy to answer any questions that I can. I'll be away for 2 weeks starting wed, so FM and I'll write back when I return.
On the flip side, my sister-in-law uses the other practice upstairs and has had nothing but good things to say about them (other than wait times, which obviously won't affect me).
When I asked the secretary at the office she pretty much said that they think it will be rare that someone from your own practice won't be treating you at the hospital, but they want to make people aware that it could happen.

Re: Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
Unfortunately we are going to be losing a lot of OBGYNs here on Long Island. The cost of Medical Malpractice Insurance for OBGYNs is astronomical. A lot of doctors are either doing only GYN, moving out of state or upstate, and/or teaching.
Im sad that Paone left. I lost my doctors when I was 32 weeks b/c of the above factors and it was tough for me to find a practice that would take me at that stage of the game. Dr Paone was the only one who would take me.....he delivered DS and Im actually glad that things turned out the way they did. The delivery was amazing and everything I could have hoped for.
It kind of would have been nice to see some pics of his DD when she arrived etc.....He's delivered our babies it would have been exciting to see pics of his first child...

WOW I am glad I looked on this board. I am totally bummed about Dr. Paone leaving! He was always so great during my pg appointments. Dr. McKenna delivered my DD and I was very happy. However, I don't think I would be happy to have a Dr. I have never met deliver my babies. I am sure the other practice is a great one as well, but I really like the comfort of knowing everyone.

Re: Contemporary Women's Care - Dr. Paone
I only see Rubin and Eskema and love them both. I don't see male OB/GYNs. I am not preggo right now but thanks for the info.
I think adding new doctors at a late stage pregnacy is pretty unfair though. You should talk to your doctor about it if you are not comfortable.
