NYS needs to take more care of thier pregnant women!!
i dont get it!!! there is nothing you can do prior to having the baby without using your time after having the baby... NYS sucks......
i really though NYS disability was different from the 13weeks FMLA... apparently if my doctor takes me out now.. it comes out of the time with my baby after...... That Really Stinks.....
oh well... i still can get 2 weeks off before hand with my vacation... but it does still stink knowing i have to wait it out for the next 3 weeks now... i want to spend all the time with the baby!!
i need a c-section anyway... so hopefully we can schedule a c-section right after my 2 weeks vacation ends.

just be glad we get mandatory disability. it doesn't exist in all 50 states! My bosses have tried pressuring me into working "until" but I'd rather waste my vacation time and not risk going into labor there!

Its not just NY its all of the United States...We have the worst policies regarding this type of thing...Iraq has better maternity laws!!!! Im not kidding!!! They had a thing on this on 20/20 or Dateline a few months back. It was appalling!!!

Sadly, I'm thinking to myself while reading this thread- "At least you all GET disability.."
Here in Maryland, they don't consider childbirth a disability. I have to use my own accrued sick bank and vacation time to have income during my leave......

Re: NYS needs to take more care of thier pregnant women!!
When my mom had me (1973), medical insurance didnt cover deliveries, because she wasnt considered "sick." They only covered c-sections!!!!!!!
And there was ZERO maternity leave in education in NYS back then. It really was the hard work of women in the 60s and 70s who got us the maternity packages we have now - granted there is SO MUCH more work to be done.

Re: NYS needs to take more care of thier pregnant women!!
Yup i remeber really bugging out that if I had to go on bedrest say at week 20 (since i was high risk with twins) that i could actually lose my job because that would be considered my FMLA time. However, my boss really was nice about the whole thing and allowed me the last three weeks off as a freebie and paid and didn't start my maternity leave until after i had the boys. I worked from home a little but i was in a lot of pain at the time.
It's unbelievable how bad we have it in the USA.

I actually did lose my job because I was put on bedrest at 24weeks. Fortunately I was immediate "rehired" when I was ready to come back to work but it did suck because I had to shell out big $$ to pay cobra for 2mths.
