Convertible car seat backwards facing - legs up against the seat?

We just installed DD's convertible carseat and her little legs are already right up against the back of the carseat.

Is that the way it's supposed to be?Chat Icon

She hates it and was crying the whole time.

What happens when she gets bigger? Does her knees just scrunch up?

It could be the angle, she may want to be a bit more upright or a bit more reclined if you have it upright. It could just be because it's a new seat. Kids either sit criss cross or hang their legs over the sides, some put them straight up... they adapt. It's fine.

DS is 15 months, 30+ inches and yes his feet touch the back seat. His legs are bent at the knee and thankfully he's fine. They get used to it, and yes as they get older, their legs are more bent etc. They are MUCH more flexible at that young age than adults are, so chances are that something else might be making your DC uncomfortable in the seat. Maybe the angle? Maybe head position? Could be the legs of course, but could be anything.

DD sat rear facing until just recently (she's 22 months) and her legs were fine, she just sat with them crossed or up on the seat. Here are a few pics... 1st pic is 17 months in graco myride65, 2nd pic is 20 months in britax roundabout.

Thanks!

It just didn't look right to me since I only had DS as a point of reference and you could turn them forward facing at 1 yr and 20 lbs.
