Converting 5 point harness to cross belt in booster seat
We did this today for DS, but he can not reach the buckle on his own. I have to literally climb in the back seat to help him. I was hoping this was going to be easier.
Should I buy a seat belt extender?
Any suggestions?

No- not safe. Also probably not allowed by the maker of your seat.
Also if your child is younger then 5-6 and had not outgrown the harness, I would put it back to a harness.
I think dedicated boosters tend to be easier to buckle than carseats that's convert to boosters

i have to agree with jax1023... both my kids can buckle themselves in with a dedicated booster, but with the 3n1 boosters they cannot reach to buckle in but can unbuckle.

Re: Converting 5 point harness to cross belt in booster seat
How old is your DS? That sounds like a huge PITA! I would stick with the five point a bit longer until he can buckle himself. My 6&7 year olds are still in 5 points. They buckle themselves so it's easier on me and it's by far way safer. So it's a win win to leave them in it for now.

I do not quite understand what you are saying here. What exactly did you do and what are you asking?

Sounds like she was expecting that her son would be able to buckle himself in by himself. DS is 4 1/2 in a booster. He can not buckle himself at all but he can unbuckle.

Just a side not to what you just said - The Insurances Institute for Highway Safety does not recommend many of the combination seats that turn into boosters with the exception of the Graco line
