Converting crib into toddler bed

Ryan has started trying to climb out of his crib. He gets one leg over the railing and then gets stuck. I know his crib is "convertible" into a "double" bed. Does that mean a full size bed, or is it possible to make it into a toddler bed?

Has anyone converted a crib into a toddler bed, still using the crib mattress?

When you turn the crib into a toddler bed it looks like this:



Then if it can go to a bigger bed, i believe the full side in the picture becomes a headboard.


eta: toddler bed if its like this pic.. you use the same crib mattress.

this is what type of crib our DD has...its a crib first - then toddler bed - then you can use the framework to make headboard for full size bed.
