Cool idea I had for aerial shots of major home renovations

I'm trying to get lots of before photos of our current project, and I remembered that Live Maps has birds-eye views of everywhere. You can zoom onto your house, go to Bird's Eye View, and see your property from a few hundred feet. I just took a screen capture of each direction and saved them. I'm not sure how often they update the photos, but when they do, I'll capture the "after" photos.

So, besides all of the ground-level photos I have, I'll also have aerial shots of the property.... Chat Icon

Of course, this only really works for major changes. If you change all your windows, you won't see anything.

Very cool but obviously the pics are not update that often as my house still is shown without the vinyl siding & the deck. Both were done a year and half-2 years ago. Although they do show the extension that we added.

That is a good idea, but they don't update the images very often. I just looked at the image they have of our house and it's at least 2 years old based on the work we've done and our neighbors have done. I'd say it's about 3 years old if I'm remembering correctly when we had a specific landscaping project done.

DH's firm has looked into investing in several of these companies and he learned that residential areas are rarely updated as it's very expensive since they don't actually have their own satellites up in space and are purchasing the images from someone else.

Great idea! Too bad it's still the old owners house view. Chat Icon Can't wait to see your before and after pics.

That site is at least 2 years behind.

I had my house built and all I saw was dirt at my address! LOL

OK, so it's not perfect.... but for me, it is. I've been in our house for almost 12 years, and haven't changed the outside during that time. Photos from last week, or photos from 5 years ago will look pretty much the same.

Whenever they redo the photos (1 year, 3 years...), it will show the renovations.

Google Maps has something like that too

I was using it to check out a house we were going to see ...

And from their "street view" I saw their neighbor watering their lawn Chat Icon
