Cooperstown/Baseball Hall of fame - been there?
Thinking of taking DH there for his 30th bday this year - want to know if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations for places to stay.
i've been looking online and the Otesaga Hotel and Resort looks really nice, but wondering if its really too fancy (stuffy) or if its worth it.
I know he'd love the hall of fame.. and thats really why we'd be going there, but wondering if there's anything else to do while we're there - any good bars?
thanks!

The Otesaga is insanely expensive, just FYI. There are tons of adorable bed and breakfasts there... you won't have a problem finding one at all. You should also check out The Farmer's Museum while you're there (it's across the street from the Otesaga)... it's not as hokey as it may sound... it's actually pretty cool and we just had friends who got married there a few weeks ago. There are also lake activities to do there in the warm weather and lots of places to go antiquing. Howe Caverns are far at all... few exits back on Rt. 88. Lots of nice restaraunts... Cooperstown makes for a really nice long weekend.

i took dh there a few years ago for his birthday.. i think we stayed at like a howard johnson or soemthing like that. They had a baseball player themed room.. like they had memorabilia on the walls and stuff. it was cool you might want to look into that.

We went this summer and stayed at the Hampton Inn in Oneonta. It is the newest hotel in the area, and v. nice, but about 20 mins from the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame takes maybe 5 hours for a die-hard fan (like my DH). Other than that we walked around the town, but there isn't TOO much else to do. There are several breweries in the area, and we went on a tour of the Ommegang Brewery close to Cooperstown. It was definitely worth going to. The Otesaga is a bit stuffy though nice. My dad has a lot of work conferences there.

While we were there we visited the Ommegang Brewery also... and the Fly Creek Cider Mill. There are a few other winery/brewerys in the area... We kept busy while we were there!

I suggest staying in Oneonta, it's only about a 15 - 20 minute drive to Cooperstown. The Fly Creek Cidar Mill is really cute and has really good fudge! There is also a Glimmerglass Lake which is pretty.

if you're making a weekend of it, about 1 hr. 30 minutes away, coming home or on the way there...in Binghamton..they have a farm baseball team - the Binghamton Mets...don't know if DH is a Mets fan or not..but you can get good seats very reasonably and stay there reasonably as well.

Fabulous idea! he's a HUGE mets fan. however we'll be going in October so not sure if they'll still be playing. Do farm leagues go beyond end of September? i'll def. check them out though. thanks!
