CoPay for Flu Shots? Pi$$ed Off

I am wondering if everyone pays a co oay for flu shots. My co pay is $30 and I have 3 kids and I see that CVS and Target offer flu shots for less.

I am sorry but this really pi$$es me off. I should have to pay $60 for a minute worth of services while they bill my insurance.. In addition we have physicall schesdules for today and they will only give the flu shots at certain times. So that is double the money....

with my old insurance...no I didnt have a copay. Now I am on DH's insurance, not sure what the copay is. That would piss me off too though, you might as well go to CVS and get the shots for cheaper!

Some insurances will reimburse the cost of flu shots (not the copay but, if you go to a place like CVS). I'd look into it.

Re: CoPay for Flu Shots? Pi$$ed Off

DS got his flu shot at his last visit and i only paid the $5.00 copay for the visit. WE got our swine flu shots last year at the PED office and the adults had to pay $15.00 each;

Then I think our regular dr. charged more for the regular flu shots. DH said he is going to walgreens this year to get his shot Chat Icon

Can you bring the kids there? its probably cheaper.

We did when our insurance required a co-pay for both sick and well visits. We don't now as our current insurance plan doesn't require a co-pay for well visits.

I understand your frustration, we had to pay well-visit co-pays when both kids were infants so I felt like I was constantly shelling out money with all the doctor's visits in the first year. Chat Icon

I am totally with you! The thing is, if all the Dr. does is a flu shot, there's no copay. But they always find something to check or to talk about. It annoys me to no end! I'm doing it tomorrow and I'm thinking of telling the Dr. straight out that I'm out of work and just do the shot lol

Well this goes to a question I asked on here the other day but didn't get much of a response. I assume other offices charge for a visit (none well or just a visit whichever makes you pay a co-pay). My ped on the other hand charges a "shot administration fee" - If you just come in for any shot (in other words he walks in gives the shot and walks out) if you want to make sure your DC is healthy first (i.e. is it teething over an ear infection) he will charge you for a sick visit AND the shot administration (if he says it is just teething and they can get the shot) so you get it both ways.

I tried to schedule DD's well visit (no copay for well visits for us) so she could get the shot (there is no shot administration if you get regular shots at a well visit) BUT he charges a shot administration fee for JUST the flu shot no matter if it is a well visit OR just a shot or non well visit. So you have to pay either way.

It used to be $15 but the office says the price of the shots went up this year so he raised the fee to $20. So I have to pay $40 for the girls to get their shots. BTW my insurance WILL pay my ped for shot administration IF he bills them for it - but they only pay him $11 so he refuses to bill them b.c he can charge US more.

We are looking for another ped - but I think most get around this in one way (shot fee or non well visit) or another.

Ours doesn't - at least yet. I was just there yesterday with DS, he needed a booster of one vaccine, I had them give him Flumist and he had blood drawn for some tests and we didn't have to pay our co-pay.

That sounds really annoying as well. Where my niece goes, they do something like above, plus they only administer certain shots when the NP is there, which is sometimes just once a month. I guess I don't have it that bad lol

Christine - are you still using the same ped as before? We're supposed to go there tomorrow and I remember being annoyed last year when I had to pay just for 1 kid's flu shots, nm 2 this year!

I don't think places like Walgreens will administer shots to toddlers and infants, so you're still stuck going to the pediatrician.

YUP!! I think I need to find someone new but haven't found a place I'm thrilled with yet.

I made the appointment last week and the secretary said - understand it is now $20 PER child as a shot administration fee. The cost went up b.c the cost of the shot went up. So there is a little story behind it...But even if you get it at a well visit they still charge the shot administration fee.

That's what happened to us last year - we did it at a well visit and when i went up to pay the co-pay ($20 for me) they said $35. That means my fun-filled hour at the ped will be $60 tomorrow - awesome Chat Icon
