Cord Blood Banking (BTDT moms welcome too!)
Two questions:
1. Who's doing it?
2. Which company are/did you go with and why? What are the benefits of banking with one company over another?
Thanks!

I'm def going to do it! I think I'm going with Viacord. I didn't do much research...but my Dr said that's who he recommends and who they use most often!

My DH and I discussed it and are going to look into it. I haven't begun any research yet.
How much does it cost? Also, does insurance cover it at all?

Re: Cord Blood Banking (BTDT moms welcome too!)
I'm doing Viacord again this time. Cost is around $1900 the first year, and $125 for following 18 years. Insurance doesn't cover it except sometimes when there is a sibling awaiting a treatment.
Benefits of one company over the other are just placing your bets for who has the most stability for the long term.

Re: Cord Blood Banking (BTDT moms welcome too!)
As of now, we're planning on doing it due to family history of leukemia. I'm leaning towards Viacord b/c they have a monthly payment plan for the initial fee ($49/month).
I was just wondering why some people chose certain companies over another. It sounds like it relates more to company long-term viability.

Re: Cord Blood Banking (BTDT moms welcome too!)
we did it with Viacord.
We figure, its better to be safe than sorry. My DH is a dr. and believed it was VERY important to do it. We both agree we hope its money we'll never use, but if we need to, we have it.

We did it with our first child and plan on doing it with this one too! We'd rather be safe and hope we never need to use it.
We used CBR.

We're using Viacord. They come highly recommended by a number of my friends, one of whom has been using them since she had her 1st son, about 7 years ago. I think they've been around the longest.

We did it with Viacord. If you search my screen name you will see a lot of info I posted about the companies I was considering. In the end, we narrowed it down to Viacord vs. CBR. I think either would have been fine.

Re: Cord Blood Banking (BTDT moms welcome too!)
I did not do it. I do think that these companies prey on PG women and their emotions and almost pressure you into it. Please visit the pro and con info sites.
I weighed all my options and after much research decided it was not for us.
If we had certain diseases in our family that we definitely knew it could help, then we might have gotten it.
There has been much research that shows that the cons override the pros by ten fold. Most experts say that you should donate to a public bank instead of a privte bank.
Look for research on websites that are not cord blood banking sites or ones that promote it for the best FAQ's.
One Site Another Site
ETA: Some Dr's promote certain companies because they get a kickback. And the people on the phone work on commission.
