Cord Blood Banks
Does anyone know of any companies that provide this service? I was going to do a google search but figured I would start here first.

Re: Cord Blood Banks
I researched this a lot. We are going with the Cord Blood Registry. I had narrowed it down to CBR or Viacord.

Re: Cord Blood Banks
Just wait....once you register or buy something you will get about 4 fliers a week from these places.
I know that one is Viacord.
You can also donate it to the hospital which is free.

Re: Cord Blood Banks
I just entered a sweepstakes on babycenter for cord blood banking through CBR and now I'm getting tons of info. I got a big info packet in the mail yesterday. I've also heard about Viacord. Your dr's office most likely has pamphlets too. Not sure if we're doing it though. I need to do more research.

Re: Cord Blood Banks
I was just reading that CBR does Cord Blood and Tissue Banking and they claim to be the only company that provides Tissue Banking.

I know of CBR and Viacord.
You could also choose to donate free to public banking.
You can check out this website to see if your hospital particpates.

If you donate the cord blood and by some chance you need cord blood are you automatically entitled to it because you donated it?

Not sure how it works. I would think if it has not been used already, you would have priority on it if needed.
I really think everyone should donate, if they choose not to privately bank. It's free and it could possibly save someone's life....so that's what I am doing.
I chose against Private Banking but will def donate it!
Hope that helps hun!

Re: Cord Blood Banks
When I signed up for Baby Center they emailed me a coupon for $700 off CBR to enroll but it expires 8/31.
I am hesitant on enrolling but I don't want to miss this coupon.

Wow, that is a great offer!
I think the best people too ask are Pediatricians v.s OBGYN. You can ask during your pediatrician interviews..( but that would be a few months from now). From what I heard a lot of OBGYN's get kick backs from private banks.

Re: Cord Blood Banks
I'm deciding where to do it between CBR and viacord...
As for the public banking I am told if you have yoru baby on the weekend there is no one to take it, so that really turned me off to the private banks. I can't risk that....I would hate to deliver on a saturday and find out I lost my opportunity...
I figure just cause the science isn't there yet doesn't mean it won't be there in the future. We are not going to donate tissue yet. Still too premature if yo ask me...but definitely the cord blood.

We are doing just the cord blood. I also felt tissue was not well tested. As for the $700 coupon, that works only is you prepay storage for 18 yrs I think but CBR generally always has a $250 off coupon for cord blood storage.

Re: Cord Blood Banks
we're using Maze
they are in NY, were recommended by a fellow LIF and had the most reasonable rates
I forget which but one of the major ones was in a flood zone and that made me nervous

Re: Cord Blood Banks
I just called about the CBR coupon that I received in my email for $700. It's not actually $700 off. It is $200 off and if you do blood and tissue together you save $500 on the tissue (which is actually already stated on their website).
So in reality, the coupon code is only for $200.
Sorry for the confusion above!

Re: Cord Blood Banks
i am going to be using Viacord. They are giving me almost a $900 discount because I am an RN. And from what I've heard, they do the most clinical research.

Try Lifeline...We are thinking about going with them. They are very reasonably priced and some LIF member's have used them and liked them
