Re: Cord Blood, Tissue and PKU testing....

We banked the cord blood through Viacord. It's definitely not cheap up front but I thought of all the trivial things we spend our money on and ultimately decided to do it. I kept thinking how I would feel if there was ever a time, God forbid, that it could possibly be used.
I do know many people who have decided not to bank though. Out of the people I know, I feel like half do, half don't.

Cord Blood, Tissue and PKU testing....

I did public cord blood donation. After a lot of research I decided it was the best choice for me- the odds of my DD needing it are so small but someone else could benefit from the donation.

PKU testing, is done by a sample of blood taken from the heal of a newborn baby-New York State Mandates it. It 1 of many disorders that are tested as part of the Newborn Screening Program. It's completely free and done by the hospital. It's usually done in the nursery.

I am very familiar with the newborn testing. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions.

Cord Blood, Tissue and PKU testing....

It is done though the NY blood center- the only catch is your hospital must participate in the program. Here is the website:http://www.nationalcordbloodprogram.org

We are doing CBR for cord blood only. They came down on rate by $500 if I was ready to enroll that day.

My OB recommended this as well.

We did cord and tissue banking through CBR. With cancer running in my family you just never know. It's like an insurance that you hope never to use, but I would want it GD forbid dd needs it.

Fm me if you want our contact at CBR. They were great to deal with and less expensive than via cord.

Re: Cord Blood, Tissue and PKU testing....

We used CBR and banked both DS1 and DS2's cord blood. Tissue wasn't available when we had DS1 but we decided not to bank tissue with DS2. My OB strongly recommended cord blood banking when we had DS2 (although we had banked 1's and were def banking DS2's also). I had a fantastic experience with CBR when I had DS1. He came early and it was chaotic and I hadn't paid yet and didn't even have a kit but they took care of everything and made sure I had a kit waiting for me at the hospital. I recommend them without hesitation.
