Re: Corner House?
I like corner houses. I really was hoping to buy one. IMO they usually have bigger lots.

Re: Corner House?
We are in a corner house but it does have a large backyard. Like a few others mentioned, having to clear double the sidewalk when it snows is def a con, and also for us since we do have a bit of a larger lot, there is more grass to maintain. I think if we could go back we would buy a mid block house. At the time we didn't really think about it.

Re: Corner House?
When we were house shopping we didn't want a corner lot, one of our "musts" was a BIG backyard and that is something you give up when you're on a corner lot. It's really just preference, if you don't mind having a smaller backyard and more side yard then don't cross them off your list. For us, it just wasn't what we were looking for.

Re: Corner House?
We just bought a corner house and I love everything about it!!!!
Yes, our backyard is narrow but we have two big side yards. We don't have any sidewalks so snow removal isn't an issue for us, and we have low maintenance hedges on the corner so it's no problem at all.
I wouldn't rule out a house just because it's on a corner. We actually have double the property as most house on our block bc it's a corner!

Corner House?
Just wanted to add that a corner doesn't necessarily mean a smaller back yard. Our back yard, even without the side yard is pretty big. The side yard added to it makes it a really good size. It depends on how the house is situated and how the house behind it is placed.

I agree. My parents have a corner and a small backyard due to additions on the house.
My sister and brother have corner lots and their backyards are huge.
I would not want a corner if it was on a main road.

Exactly. My backyard is bigger than my neighbors yards. We have a great piece of property.

Corner House?
As an owner of a corner house here is what I have learned. You have to enjoy landscaping or hire a cheap but reliable landscaper! If you have children, you need to keep a closer eye on them or gate your yard with a fence that only an adult can open. If your kid gets outside that gate, you dont have just 1 street to worry about, you now have two!
Careful about the grass inbetween the sidewalks and street, ive noticed compared to my old house, a lot more foot traffic passes where I am and I have found plenty of dog presents from my neighbors.
A lot of other posters have already mentioned the snow problem and they are all correct, I have a lot more work I have to do in this house when it comes to shoveling, also this goes hand in hand with foot traffic, you should maintain it well during storms when it comes to ice and such. Double the chance someone can slip outside your house.
As i think of more ill edit my post.

Re: Corner House?
We have a corner property. What's weird is DH and I both grew up on corner properties as well. We have a huge yard, no side yard and small front yard. No negatives really except for the 4 way stop signs that nobody seems to obey.

Re: Corner House?
In my neighborhood some corner houses have back yards not side yards. Fences are permitted as well. The biggest negative is shoveling. I wouldn't eliminate a corner house without checking it out first.

Corner House?
We bought a double corner house last year (we are the only house between 2 side streets). Our backyard is odd shaped but we have plenty of room. When it comes to the town though they consider that we have 3 side yards. We don't have neighbors in either side of us, but 2 behind us, although their houses are far away. We do have lots of sidewalk to clear (3 sides) but we bought a snow blower and it doesn't take DH that long to clear.
