Re: Cost of Cobra?

I don't know the exact cost, but I remember from when I was downsized I was still covered by company for 60 days and then had the option of Cobra and remembered it being pretty expensive (I want to say it was more than $500 per month just for me). Luckily the benefits at my new job kicked in 2 weeks after my benefits from the previous job expired.

Re: Cost of Cobra?

for just me alone I was paying 355.00 a month. It all depends on your insurance though, basically you are paying for all of it instead of your company chipping in.

I think it depends on the insurance. Dh had to pay COBRA a couple of years ago and for just him it was only $250 or $350 (I'm almost positive it was $250, though).

Re: Cost of Cobra?

yup its whatever your company was being charged for the insurance you had.

The benefit is that you can continue your coverage uninterupted for up to another 18 months at the group rate the business paid which depending on the size of the company *should* be better than what you'd get on your own. Of course no matter how you slice it, Ins is not cheap Chat Icon

For Ex:
our GHI plan at work costs $1,125 for a family plan.
employees pay 50% of that - $562.50

if someone left our co. and wanted to take advantage of COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) it would cost them $1,125.

HTH

Re: Cost of Cobra?

It all depends on what your company was paying for you. After I got laid off in June, I got my letter from Cobra last week and they said I would have to pay 1000 bucks a month. Luckily I already have a new job, no thanks!

Re: Cost of Cobra?

it totally is dependent upon your company's policy and what the monthly rate is that they normally pay, plus your contribution, is what you pay.

Essentially, you remain on your company's plan, you just pay the full amount.
