cost of dormer?

We are planning on dormering one of the upstairs rooms in our new house prior to moving in and making it the master bed. The bathroom upstairs has already been dormered and we were told after the dormer the size of the room would be 20x12, does anyone know what the cost of that maybe.

Our seller is a contractor and said it would run about 8-9k.

TIA.

Is it a doggie dormer or are you doing a full dormer? Also, is 8-9K just for the skeleton or are they finishing it?

Not sure what the difference is..he would make it the same size as in the pic: It would be extended the same size on the left of the house.

....he said he'd finish the entire thing for 8-9k

Oh wait - the guy said he would do it for 8 or 9 K? That actually sounds really reasonable to me. But - def. price around.

9k does sound reasonable.

Down the road... we will most likely expand the side of our house into our current carport. I always wondered what that would cost.

That's a doggie dormer. I full dormer would conver the house into more of a square shaped Chat Icon

What does the 8-9k include? is it just the doggie dormer that area (the skeleton) and then you'll need someone to finishe it up (ie, sheetrock, electrical, etc.) or does it include all?

That sounds really inexpensive. You may want to check into past work that your seller has done - to make sure he does quality work

A friend of ours is a contractor and came with us to the house and said the seller put a lot of money and excellent work into the house but I'd be interested to see another house he had built...

During all of this I realized that a friend of mine, his family owns dormer king so he'll be doing an estimate as well.

Thanks everyone!
