Cost of PGD
Would anyone mind sharing what they paid for PGD? Especially if they were at LI IVF?

Not LI IVF but we paid around 5k. (at SIRM)
I did it at Dr.Braverman's office too and it was about the same.
The number of embryos you have impacts the cost. I believe it's usually done through a lab called Reprogenetics so the cost should be standard if they are using that lab.

I went to East Coast which is now LI IVF. I was told by many Dr's not to waste money. It's very costly & can lose the eggs prior to test because they need to be frozen first. You also have to have many eggs incase. Is there a reason why you really need it done?

About 5K here too at RS of NY (Reprogenics also). Maybe slightly less. That cost would cover up to 8 embryos; anything more would be additional money.

Everyone's case is different. For me, the cycle we did PGD was the only one that allowed me to get this far. My doctor recommended it after years of losses and here we are. No regrets. It's definitely a case by case basis, so while the benefits may not have outweighed the risks for you, that's definitely not the case for everyone!

How long ago did they give you that advice? I imagine it's an opinion based on now antiquated PGD technology. Day-3 biopsies are unreliable because of mosaicism, in which embryos that correct themselves during their development can be misidentified as abnormal with the biopsy of only one cell; that cell may be abnormal but not match the bunch. It was also thought to hurt embryo quality because of manipulating the embryo and needing to freeze.
However, clinics that rely on it try to biopsy at day 5, when they can take a handful of cells (instead of just one) to look for a pattern of abnormality, and they can take it from the trophectoderm (outer portion of the blast that becomes the placenta) instead of the inner cell mass (becomes the baby) which is easier on the embryo, not to mention that embryo quality and thaw survival is vastly improved by labs using vitrification. This has alleviated many of the concerns about PGD (or PGS, if you want them to look for normal pairing in all the chromosomes and not just pairs with commonly occurring errors).
That said--in order to do it this way and get reliable information, you need to get your embryos to blast, which means you need good eggs and/or a really good lab. For women who don't get a lot of eggs to blast from one stim cycle, some choose to stim and bank embryos from more than one cycle to get a batch together so they can pay the expense of embryo screening once and then do a transfer.
It's not for everyone, but we will be doing PGS (or CCS as CCRM calls it) because we haven't had a lot of good explanation for my RPL and repeat IVF failure, so it's unclear where to go from here. It might not be a worthwhile expense for everyone, but I'm grateful for the improvements that have made it a viable technology for getting some diagnostic criteria and helping define an individualized treatment plan.

They reason they suggested it for me was because we have had 3 losses in the last year, 4 failed IVF and no known anything wrong - unexplained and all genetic testing came back fine..
They use reprogenetics as well; i thought they take cells from day 3. When i had my first ER, i had 21 eggs, 11 fetilized (i think), 10 made it to D3 and 5 made it to D5. All high quality.
I am still really unsure of what to do. I kinda feel like if i dont do, i will regret it if the next cycle fails. not really sure that's the right reason to spend 5k. my RE really stressed that he thought this was the way to go. We didnt talk long abt it, and honestly i was in the middle of another chemical so i was a little distracted. I am seeing him again today for a follow-up appt, so DH and I will be able to talk more about this.
With doing this, do they still recommend putting back 2, or are the success rates that much better that they only do 1?

I guess it depends on the situation. We put back 2, I had twins, and then sadly lost 1.

I put only one in and it was BFN. I still have 2 frozen ones left but RE wants me to only put one in again. He thinks the uterus cooperates some months and not during others.....if we did two in the same cycle, it might be an "off" month.
