Couch to 5K - Help!
Ok..started it tonight. Wow it sucked! My legs hurt and lungs BUT I feel so good after that I did Night one. Please someone tell me it gets easier? I have a problem with running (I have very large chest DDD and horrible ankles) so it was tough. Will it get easier?
Also, it is 3 times a week, so tomorrow I am "off" but should I walk fast for 30 mins or something to keep it going? TIA

IT definitely gets easier. Take the off days completely off, or do something else like weights or biking.
Do you have a supportive sports bra? If not, I think it would be a worthwhile investment. There are ones specifically made for larger chest sizes.

Re: Couch to 5K - Help!
Yes, it definitely gets easier. I was not a runner at all, in my whole life, and I'm 36 and relatively out of shape in terms of NEVER exercising.
I started couch-to-5K in July, and I am now starting week 6. The other day, I ran for 20 minutes straight, something I didn't ever imagine doing. You'd be surprised how quickly you build stamina if you stick with it.
A few tips:
- Run SLOWLY... sometimes I feel like I am practically running in place, but I keep the running form/motion going. But if you go too fast, you will tire quickly and it will be harder to complete each run. My whole goal is to build endurance, and I will worry about speed down the road.
- Make sure you have good running shoes, that are designated running shoes (not just sneakers).
- Repeat days/weeks if you need to. I started from zero, from a fitness level, so I repeated weeks 1 & 2, and then I've been able to progress from week 3 to 4 to 5. The last run of week 5 was a 20 minute run, and I didn't do the whole thing the first time (I took a walk break), so I repeated that run once and I was able to complete the whole 20 minute run the second time.
- Run somewhere you like to run... I hate the treadmill, so I've been doing all of my runs outside on a school track, even in the heat. But I enjoy being around other people at the track and just being outside without having to worry about cars.
- Sign up for a race! I am doing my first 5K in early October. I figure even if I can't run the whole thing by then, it's fine, but it gives me a good goal to work toward.

Re: Couch to 5K - Help!
Thank you! I found a track near me to use instead of a treadmill.

It definitely gets easier. I would also recommend doing some sort of activity in between - walking is a great start.

I did night 2 and I feel great! What a difference from day one already :)
I may actually be able to do this! Signed up for a 5K in November!

Re: Couch to 5K - Help!
You can do it. I could not even run a minute when I started and now I am getting ready for a 5k in November as well. STICK WITH IT you will be amazed
