Couch to 5K- non-runner
I am NOT a runner. I am known for saying how much I hate the thought of running even when I was little.
Decided to challenge myself and signed up for a 5K and do the program to "learn" how to run.
I am finishing week 4. I CANNOT imagine being ready for a 5K in another 6 weeks!!
Anyone that did the program feel this way? I am struggling to get thru the run. I am scared to move on to the next week!

You can do it! Just stick with the program, repeat the week if you have to! It works!

Re: Couch to 5K- non-runner
You can do it! Make sure you work on endurance rather than speed- you can always work on speed once you can comfortable jog the 3 miles.
I did it a few years ago- pre-kids. I only ran and it was a few months after I finished the program and hadn't been keeping up with training. I still managed to do it in 35min (which someone could probably do at a walk- but I did it at slow jog).
If I hadn't gotten pregnant, I would've kept working at it.
2 kids later- I want to start it again. Just waiting to buy new sneakers!
Good Luck!

Re: Couch to 5K- non-runner
Running is 90% MENTAL--only 10% physical. Its true.
Its amazing what you body can do. I was a non-runner, never ran more than a mile before last June and a year later, I've completed three half marathons.
Don't be scared--your body can do it. Just keep your head up and don't say "I can't do it" because you can.

Re: Couch to 5K- non-runner
I just started the program... on week 3. I am NOT a runner by any stretch. At this point I can't imagine running a 5K either but I'm going to stick with it. My friend and I are even going to register for a race just to keep ourselves motivated! I've always heard positive things about C25K so I'm determined to become a runner! Or at least a jogger.

I am considering getting in to running after my pregnancy (I deliver in August). What program are you referring to?

It's called Couch to 5K.
If you google it, a million websites will probably come up. I use the podcasts from

Re: Couch to 5K- non-runner
I felt this way every single week. I was totally convinced that I was never going to be able to do it. But, I did. In a decent time also. I did mind the first weekend in May.
Keep with it. It actually works.
I thnk it helps to sign up for a 5k that falls around the end of the program. That way you have a goal and can't back out.
I haven't done anymore running because 3 days after the 5k I wound with meningitis and a clot in my liver and damage. I was sick for a month and in the hospital. I am on 2 blood thinnesr and banned from working out until the doctor tells me I can. But, I did it with DH and he has ran 2 5k's since then and every one gets easier. We were both not only non-runners but, total couch potaotes. We would do occasional bike rides or hikes but, nothing on a regular basis.
