Could use Camera & camcorder recs

We are in desparate need of a new digital camera, and with a new on her way a camcorder would be nice.

What should I look for in purchasing one?

(I heard about harddrive camcorders, which sounds great, but we do not have a DVD burner)

We got the Sony Handycam camcorder for my baby shower, and we LOVE it. It's soooo easy to use (I stink with technology usually), and it's lightweight, small, and reasonably priced. I had wanted the hard drive ones, but after researching and thinking about it, we decided against it because...you still have to burn them on to DVDs to save them/back them up, so it defeated any convenience (unless I'm missing other points about it, which is possible, since as I said, technology isn't my thing!)
