I so sorry that you guys are going through this. My mom was diagnosed with CML (chronic myelogenous leukemia) 6 years ago & at the time it was terrifying. Up until that year there really hadn't been a succesful treatment; however a new clinical trial of Gleevec was looking promising & her doctors gave it a try. I am happy to say that she's been in remission for the past 5 years thanks to Gleevec. It's a med that she'll need to take for the rest of her life (& her dosage occassionally needs to be tweaked), but thank God it keeps her CML in check & her prognosis is good. Please give yourself some time to process this - it's ok to cry & worry. It's only natural, but when you're ready start doing all of the research that you can and, if she will let you, help educate your mom & just be there for her as much as you can. My mom told me that my being there so much in the beginning & helping her to understand what the docs were saying/doing helped to keep her going when she was scared & at her worst. Just having your support will mean the world to her. You, your mom & your entire family are in my thoughts & prayers
Lots of prayers for your mom. My MIL was dx'd with multiple myeloma ealier this year. It was hard on my DH in the beginning but she's doing much better and responding well to treatment. Just be there for your mom, in any way that she needs you. She's lucky to have you.
