Covid Cooking Burn-Out

I feel burnt out from cooking so much. With everyone home almost full time 8 months now, and barely ordering in/going out... I've cooked my way through every single recipe over and over again too many times. Not only am I exhausted, I'm just bored and tired of the options and feel so meh. I've done a lot more simple meals during this time - ravioli and sauce, chicken over a salad, scrambled eggs and fruit, leftover nights, etc. to help with the amount of work and effort but just thinking about a menu (which used to be so fun for me!) now makes me want to scream!!!
Anyone else feel like this? Any tips to help? Any new ideas or inspiration to revitalize me?

Honestly? I’d just order takeout sometimes. We’ve gotten takeout once or twice a week since all of this has started.

It is a lot and there are days when I don’t have the energy, either so you’re not alone.

Take out

I can't eat home cooked meals every day, I'd go insane. It depresses me to be honest. Same old boring meals in the same old boring place.

We go out to dinner every Saturday night and we get take out every Friday night. Then a few times a month we also get take out on a random Wednesday if we are just over cooking and the same old crap

I started ordering Home Chef meals a couple months ago just to change it up a bit. I usually get 1 or 2 meals delivered a week ( I still have to cook it from scratch, but all the ingredients are delivered, so I don’t really have to plan it out). We only get takeout on Saturdays, so I do a lot of cooking/meal planning as well.

We started ordering takeout from places probably in July and usually order something at least once a week. Sometimes I order more so we can have something for lunch the next day.

I’m not much of a cook and I don’t really enjoy cooking so I know how you feel.

I’ve started using paper plates and plastic cups. Cleaning up All the pots and pans etc after five of us eating three times a day and all the snacks in between (3kids) is just out of control.

I’ve never really used disposable but something’s gotta give during this time

Maybe you and a friend or cousin can make each other meals once a week? swap and deliver?

Do you have any gadgets like a slow cooker or an instapot? Maybe some new recipes ?

I’ve ordered take out weekly during this whole thing to try and support local restaurants. I use my instapot a lot as well

This happened to me recently..i just had no drive in me to even look up recipes. I took two weeks off from baking and cooking so i could regroup. I'm slowly getting back into it, glad its getting colder so i can bring out the crock pot and start making soups/sammie dinners.

I have been ordering takeout a toddler least once a week since march. My toddler is so picky sometimes and he knows the difference between mc Donald's chicken nuggets and home chicken nuggets.

We order in on Friday nights, and do laid back dinner on Saturday nights- the kids eat grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, lipton noodle soup, mac & cheese...and then I will throw a steam fresh bag of veggies in the microwave to go with it and viola!
I cook homemade meals Sunday-Thursday nights, and that is more than enough for me!

Re: Covid Cooking Burn-Out

i'm the opposite of most people on this.

because of my work, when the lock downs started, i was working like a dog. i worked holidays and all the things, so i didn't have time to cook a damn thing. i totally missed the banana bread craze.

now, work is slowing down... just before the holiday season craziness. i'm just getting into the cooking everything all the time feelings.

Re: Covid Cooking Burn-Out

I pretty much cooked every night before this started so it is no different for me.

I definitely feel in a rut sometimes and then make easy dinners a few nights in a row: french toast, pancakes, mac and cheese with shredded chicken, quesadillas.
