I toss or ask my sisters if they want them. I'm no longer allowed to ask my neice since she thinks everything is a treasure. I once cleaned out a great great aunt's 3 story brownstone. She was miser...that was enough to cure me from saving any thing I dont' want.

Re: Crappy Favors...

Depends on what it is. I've gotten some cool favors that I have on display of some sort. I have candle holders that are on top of my cabinets, scotch glasses in the bar and a bottle opener and wine stopper in the draw. I did get a CD from another wedding but I really did not like any songs on it so that has been burried somewhere. The other stuff if it wasnt something I would use or want on display I dont really know where it went Chat Icon

Re: Crappy Favors...

well, i have a question..what makes some people's favors crappy but not your own? I am not saying this in a snippy way...I just mean, I guess some people put a lot of time and effort into their favors but when we get them (myself included!) we put them in a cabinet out of sight, etc.

I hope people like my wedding favors...they were sterling silver heart shaped salt and pepper shakers!

All crappy favors go in the garbage. I may hold onto them for a few weeks, but eventually it's trash city!

I don't think all favors are crappy...I have gotten some nice things at weddings or showers...but there have been some heinous items too and they are not hanging around!
Personally, I like the stuff you can eat or drink!

I have gotten some nice ones, like a silver ice cream scoop (at the shower there was net around the end with chocolate kisses). If it's nice I keep it, if not, toss it.

I like, though, that the last few I have been to have had edible favors (i.e. boxes of truffles). We did little bags of truffles at our wedding- I wanted people to not be left with something they felt bad about tossing or hiding!

Chat Icon I was going to post that my favors were crappy too I dont have anyone of mine insight...they are in a box in storage...I have some useful stuff out like salt & pepper shakers, vases, candles but what do I do with the other stuff like dollar store stuff like, resin figures, clothes pins with ribbons on it, plastic pictures fames etc....I just have them in a draw..I was just wondering..that all...I am not saying this in a snippy way, but I think you should pick a bone with the people that trash them "some people put a lot of time and effort into their favors "Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well, this is why I am glad we didn't do favors! Chat Icon Chat Icon
No really, if the favor is not my style, I generally leave it. This way the host can have extras of whatever it is. I certainly don't need more dust collectors in my house as I am a pack rat already! Most things that I do like though, get displayed for a little while then will get moved "somewhere" when the space is needed for other stuff.

Re: Crappy Favors...

I usually end up keeping them for a while, then the ones I dont have use for , I throw out. I always feel crappy doing it...

eta- what makes something crappy is an individual thing of course. We got a lot of wedding favors like small vases we have no use for, ice cream scoops that break, things like that.

For our Wedding we gave our as part of our favors, CD's...Never did I think 150 would keep them...I'd be surprised if 10 did...but we thought, well if everyone listened to it one time, its better then a vase that was never used Chat Icon

Re: Crappy Favors...

to answer the question about what makes someone else's crappy: honestly, the quality.

I once received a pasta-scoop as a favor and the "metal" was chipping off of the scooper before I even got home. garbage.

Non-crappy favors IMO are things of good quality that could be put in my curio.

For my DH's 30th BDay, my budget only allowed for "crappy favors" so instead of doing that, I made a donation. Chat Icon

The best favors we have ever gotten were a Mikasa dish and ours a Mikasa bowl. I still display both of them.

Maybe this answers some of your question:

I don't really collect or display figurines of any sort - to me, this stuff gets given away, donated or tossed.

I am not a fan of anything that is resin and I don't really like personalized stuff. Your name and date inscribed on something is special to you, but it may not be something that I want to dispaly in my house. I do keep most of the personalized matches, though. For me, they are a nice keepsake, they don't take up much space and I can put them away.

Some of the "practical" favors I use, some I don't. Recently, we got a sugar and creamer set. They don't match anything in my kitchen, and I already have 2 sets of my own. We got an ice cream scoop we use all the time. so, I think it depends on what someone already has, and what their taste is.

LOVE the edible favors, they are my favorite. No one is ever going to be able to get a favor that everyone loves, so I think they just have to get something they like and hope others do too.

Answering the original question, I get rid of most of them, but try to see if someone else wants it, or I donate it to a thrift store.

Re: Crappy Favors...

Most if not practical I throw out, that is why we did edible monogramed black and white cookies and a box of lindt chocolates b/c I didnt want to give out "another" chaskee. (sp)

Re: Crappy Favors...

I gave out ice cream scoopers at my wedding. Best favor ever. Chat Icon So practical.

I use my scooper all the time. Chat Icon I wanted to get favors that I felt people would actually use. Not something to display.
