Crashing w/ a question: Migraines? (with poll)
Hi! I have a question, if you all don't mind me crashing your board...
How many mommies to be are migraine sufferers (migraines started BEFORE you were PG)? Did your migraines get better or worse w/ pregnancy?
My migraines are really scary (I'm not PG) and I worry about them continuing during pregnancy, especially since I doubt I would be able to take anything (auras, hemiparesis, bad headaches, etc). Some tell me they get better, some say they never suffered a migraine until they were PG. What are your experiences?

I've had AWFUL, FREQUENT migraines all my life but so far have NOT had one since pregnant.
I am hoping they stay away because the only thing that give me ANY relief is Imitrex which I don't believe I would be able to take.

Re: Crashing w/ a question: Migraines? (with poll)
I was diagnosed with classic migraines (complete with auras, enhanced sense of smell, etc.) at 16. I typically would get them in clusters, 5-6in two months, then none for 2-3 months. My last migraine was on thanksgiving night. I havent had one since, and am currently 6w2d. Not sure if it's a coincidence of not, hopefully not!
Out of curiosity: do you have any heart problems, in particular a PFO (patent foramen ovale)?

So far all of the tests they have done on my heart have come back normal. The only thing that may be a factor is that I may have some clotting genes (will probably be tested this week for them...my sister and mom both have them), which may cause me to be on blood thinners while PG. If the migraines are actually TIA's from clots (which really isn't that likely), the blood thinners may be the saving grace.

Re: Crashing w/ a question: Migraines? (with poll)
I haven't had any migraines during my pregnancy and did have them pre-pregnancy. I also would get normal (though pretty intense) headaches pre-pregnancy very frequently and really haven't had any headaches at all and I'm about to pop this baby out. I think I can count on one hand the amount of headaches I've had in the past 9 months and they were tiny. I used to get at least one hand's worth in a month pre-pregnancy.

That's pretty much where I stand too, so good there's hope for me
I will also get them w/ MSG and very high stress, but I will avoid MSG, just like I do now, when PG, and will definitely try to keep stress levels down. Mostly they come w/ AF though, so I am hoping that once I am PG everything will go smoothly. I will be discussing this w/ the doctor too.

Re: Crashing w/ a question: Migraines? (with poll)
i had never had a headache, let alone a migraine, in my life before my son was born. a few months after he was born i started having "visual migraines", and have had several (probably 6-7) since then (he is 15 months).
now that i am pregnant again i theorized that i wouldn't get the headaches... but i did get one a few weeks ago at about 11 weeks pregnant. we'll see what happens throughout the pregnancy...
good luck

I got migraines before pregnancy- and they were really bad during my first trimester. Thankfully they have gotten better, I am 24 weeks now!!!

I got terrible migraines pre-pg and I have gotten any migraines so far (15w) but I get terrible sinus headaches...It's a toss up as to which one is worse! and my migraines are wicked also!
