CRAZY STORY! - if this isnt fate, I dont know what is.
So some background first.....
4 years ago DH and I bought our co-op and on the day we were moving out of our apt and into the co-op, he was carrying a box out to the moving truck and I saw it had my envelope with $1500 dollars worth of matured savings bonds. So I grabbed it so it didnt get lost in the move and I zipped it into the front pocket of our large suitcase, so it couldnt get lost....or so I thought.
Fast forward a year, Im looking for the bonds and CANNOT find them. I tear the house APART looking for them bc essentially, Ive just lost $1500 dollars. I check the suitcase, every page of every book, every envelope, folder, box, drawer...you name it. All the time swearing that I zipped it into the luggage. No use, they are lost forever I think.
Fast forward again, to 2 weekends ago, we were cleaning out our storage unit and had 2 guitars that we never ever use, so we decide to throw them out.
BUT we threw out EVERYTHING, I mean an explorer full of lots of brand new stuff into the co-op dumpster, including our two guitars. BUT for some reason, after my DH chucks the guitars into the dumpster, I pull them out and lean them up against the outside of it, and say, these are perfectly good guitars, maybe someone will want them (dont know why bc we threw out A TON of perfectly good brand new stuff).
Here is where fate steps in:
Later that day, this guy who lives in my complex, whose wife bought him a guitar for Christmas, returns it bc they just cant afford them and thought the money could be put to better use. He gets home from returning the guitar, goes to take out his garbage and lo and behold there are two guitars just resting up against the dumpster. He takes them home.
Today he takes them to have the restrung and is going through the cases and finds this envelope. Its FULL of savings bonds...made out to me, but with my maiden name (we are not on a first name basis anyway). There was one bond made out in my mothers name. He calls every person in the phone book with my maiden name until he gets my mom. Asks for my father since hes the listed #, she says, right house, but hes not here right now. He asks if she is Helene, she says, yes, he says , do you know a Melissa XXXX, she says, yes thats my daughter. He says, well I live in these co-ops in Smithtown and I found an entire envelope full of bonds in the case to these guitars that were in the dumpster - FOUR YEARS LATER!!!!!!! My mom says, my daughter Melissa lives there! They put the pieces together and figure out he has my long lost savings bonds!!!!
What is the chance? Whats the chance that, I for some reason pulled them out of the dumpster out of a million things we threw away, for someone to take? Whats the chance that half an hour before I do this, he returns a guitar he really wants but cant afford and then goes to throw out his garbage and there are two guitars? It was dumpster pick up day too, whats the chance, he has to bring out garbage before the truck comes and saves them before they are hauled off to a landfill somewhere.
He is bringing them by tonight!!

I'm curious since I don't know, can ANYONE cash a bond made out to someone else? If you had thrown them out, are they forever lost?
