Re: Credit Card debt??

DH and I are on austerity putting every penny we can to credit cards. It is a hard lesson to learn, but once we are out of debt (in about 1 year), LORD knows we won't be going back there!!!!

Re: Credit Card debt??

FH was a bad boy with his CCs.

i checked $1-1k because thats what we have now - but Nov 1st we will have $0. Chat Icon

i was never one to use a lot of CC debt - but at young ages (27 and 24) i think we are doing pretty good.

Re: Credit Card debt??

Yup, a LOT!! DH decided to put some big purchases for our new house on the CC (cabinets, granite, etc..) so we have over $20k. But we also just got married so it's been tough to pay for both. All the debt is on 0% credit cards and we both have great jobs so if we sitck to our strict budget I hope to have them all paid off by the summer. I never carried debt like this before so it has been very stressful for me, but now that there is a plan and an end in sight I feel mich betterChat Icon

All the debt is on 0% credit cards

0% is the way to go actually - if you are to have debt - it should be interest free.

FH's right now is interest free, so we paid minimum payments on it and saved the rest - now that we are paying it off - we are using the amount we saved - so we actually made $$ by using the CC

We are both debt free. We pay our credit cards off each month.

I was not always debt free. When I first started out on my own, I think I had close to $15K in debt. I paid as much as I could every month, and then wehn I moved into the house with DH, the money I was spending on my rent went to pay off the bills. Took me 2 years, but it was the best feeling ever. I'll never had debt again (aside from mortgage and such).

Re: Credit Card debt??

I had very little on my card before we were married-I had paid it off-6K WOOHOO--After I paid it off I would buy something and pay the bill right away...HOWEVER, DH had some major cc debt, not his fault though...his masters was suppossed to be paid by his job and then he got laid off-so the last some odd credits were on him... NO fun, he got a better job of course Chat Icon and we used some wedding money to pay a lot of it, now it is VERY manageable!

Re: Credit Card debt??

I think I owe between $4-5K. It's not so bad. When I was in school I charged my books and expenses. IF you add FH's to that, we have several times that amount. Chat Icon
I don't really know how it happenned. I guess it's b/c FH makes a decent amount of money, so we had no problem paying the CC bills at the end of the moneht and using them to spread out payments on things like furniture and trips, but then he kept getting laid off, or finishing contract work, and we were broke for a few months, and it kept adding up Chat Icon

Re: Credit Card debt??

We paid a lot of cc debt off a few years ago. We have some now but all of it is furniture related on 0% cards. I would rather keep the money in my savings/brokerage earning 5, 6, 9%..etc.. than paying the interest to a cc company. I'll make payments as long as it's 0%!

Mostly we use our AMEX and pay everything off every month. It's tough to do, but it's just like cash.

Re: Credit Card debt??

Dh and I have no credit card debt. I never really had any. Once DH and I started dating, I took control of his finances and helped him pay of his debt (he owed a lot!). After the wedding, we were able to pay off his one remaining credit card! We charge things every month to get airlines miles but it's always paid in full at the end of the month.

I only use AMEX and that gets paid every month. I hate to pay any fees or interest to the banks.

Re: Credit Card debt??

I'm not sure if this is debt, but we could easily pay off our CC, but it's 0% and I think it's silly to give up my money earning interest in the bank. We pay 10% each month (of the original charge), so by the time the 0% is up, the balance will be 0.

Re: Credit Card debt??

I feel like the minority!! We had alot of cc debt and I have transferred to 0% cards to help pay it off but it is hard. My dh car was $1,400 a couple of months ago so that had to go on one of the cards.
We had no debt either before we had kids and a house-lol!! AND we were making nothing, I mean pratically nothing. We have buckled down on our spending within the last 6 months.

Re: Credit Card debt??

Pay it off when it comes. If I can't pay for something by the time the bill arrives, I don't buy it.

Re: Credit Card debt??

My bill is always high since I never use cash for anything. I had my wallet stolen too many times.

But I pay it off each month in full.
