crib mattress..should I have gone with the combo toddler bed?

I just put in an order for the naturepedic 252(I think) mattress and at the last minute decided not to go for the combo which can be flipped and used as a toddler bed in a few years...I thought this was a good move at the time because we are planning on having more kids and I figure after this baby we could just flip it and use the other side for the next...and if we have a next flip again..and the other reason was that by the time the baby is about 3, we would get a new themed bed anyway...but now I'm second guessing myself, because I'm not sure if getting the combo would have been more comfortable when the baby is like 2 or so...ahhh...what do you girls think? Am I driving myself nuts for no reason or should I call and get the combo??? How long should a baby be on such a firm surface anyway??? Thanks!

i think the decision you made makes sense

i said this to my mom - we ordered the convertible crib; but that doesnt mean that it will be used as a bed for THIS baby - because we may have another one that needs the crib
therefore, this baby would get a new bed and the 2nd baby would get this crib and then change it to the bed

so i totally understand what youre saying

Your idea sounds very practical. A toddler's mattress should less firm than a baby's mattress.

When I spoke to the mattress person at BBB, she recommended that I get the firm one for the baby, it was only $100 anyway, for the first year. This is to prevent SIDs 'cus you don't want infants sleeping on soft bedding / mattress.

Then afterwards, come back to get the toddler a less firm mattress...

we got the convertible cribs which convert into full sized beds. We will go straight to from the crib to the full sized bed, so we will not be using a toddler bed, therefore no toddler mattress. I think your reasoning makes sense.
