Crock pot question
I have yet to use my crockpit as I am afraid of it! How do you know when something is done, without over or under, cooking it? I see all these recipes calling for 6 - 8 hours! There is a huge window of opportunity for my dinner to be either completely under or over cooked in a 2 hour time frame!

Re: Crock pot question
it cooks slowly with even heating which is why you can't take the cover off.
It's the liquid that does it.....if you have enough liquid your food will not dry out and burn.
Try something easy, like Chili or scarletbegonia's Awesome Crock Pot Chicken. Try it first when you are home all day (I do this) so you can watch....my crockpot seems to cook things a little faster than some others

Re: Crock pot question
That's what I thought (about the cover). I guess that is what os so confusing to me! The funny part is that I love to cook but this is one appliance that I am completely afraid of
I definitely am going to try that chicken recipe you mentioned. It sounds delicious!

Re: Crock pot question
I was kind of skeptical of using mine too. I used it for the first time yesterday and WOW! I made beef stew from the Betty Crocker cookbook and it came out AMAZING... I cooked it for 8 hours and it was done.

Re: Crock pot question
don't be afraid of it!! crockpots are great the liquid in them helps keep it from getting over or under cooked... we even leave ours in for more than 8 hours sometimes, and it still comes out great! i leave it on when i'm not home- its the best thing to come home from work to a house that smells AWESOME and know that dinner is already cooked this is one that we made tonight and really like.... chicken cacciatore. 2-3 chicken breasts 1 big can crushed tomatoes some balsalmic vinegar little bit of crushed red pepper flakes one bell pepper one cubanelle pepper one onion
just cut up the veggies, through it all in there on low for 8 hours. when you're ready, the chicken breasts will break up and it becomes more like a stew... serve it over some rice or elbow macaroni!! yumm!
