Re: cruise around Italy
We went on a 12 night cruise on the Celebrity Millennium. Here is the following ports we went to:
Venice, Italy Dubrovnik, Croatia Piraeus (Athens), Greece Santorini, Greece Naples, Italy Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy Florence, Italy Villefranche (Nice), France Barcelona, Spain
I think Celebrity caters to a more older crowd. There were not many young couples like us on the boat.

Re: cruise around Italy
Carnival has one. I just did one this past fall. Less fancy than some of the other cruise lines but the ports were great. We went to several prts in Italy, Greece and Turkey. It was a 13 day cruise.

My parents just took this cruise 2-3 weeks ago. RCCL has nice ones too. I think a lot of the Europe cruises will have an older crowd.

Re: cruise around Italy
In November we went on RC Legend of the Seas. It was a 13 night cruise from Rome to Portofino, an overnight in Livorno (Florence/Pisa), Messina Sicily, Split Croatia (but the weather didn't allow us to stop there), an overnight in Venice, Dubrovnik Croatia, Naples Capri and it ended in Barcelona. We went a few days early to Rome then stayed in Barcelona until we drove to Madrid. The cruise was great. It had a mostly older British crowd. Many people referred to us as the kids since we were one of 5 "younger" couples on the ship.

Re: cruise around Italy
I have we went to Rome for 2 days staying at Exciselor ( sp) in rome to tour for 2 days then took bus to Civetivechia (sp) in italy and took a cruise on the
Regent Seven Seas Cruise line on the Seven Seas Voyager . It stopped at many ports in italy, france and spain. ah the shopping in barcelona- dont miss it! Las Ramblas- oooooo I want to go back right now!!!!! It was very $$$$$$$ but worth every single penny- you do not pay for a thing on ship not even liquor and you have lobster, caviar cocktail parties- its very upscale- we pretty much were the youngest ones on the boat all older people but we wanted pure luxury going to europe and splurged.
we cant wait to go again. we will wait till our girls are old enough to appreciate a trip like that.
