we just came back from a cruise & we had an inside cabin. It is not bad - small but ok since you don't spend much time there. However, on my next cruise we may go for the balcony as we love to sit & relax with wine or coffee & watch the sunset or even the sunrise.

For me, this would probably be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I'd be on vacation. I'd rather just spend the extra $$$$.
I agree. certain things in life are worth spending a little more on. this is definitely one of those things

We went on a Med cruise and had a balcony and I can't imagine not having it. Besides making the room feel so much bigger, we loved sitting out there at the end of the day or when we got up in the morning. We got to see the ports as we arrived and were able to tell what the weather was like

we cruised a lot as a family. If its your very first cruise, an inside cabin is fine, but once you go outside (ie get a window/balcony), you'll never be able to go back.
ITA. We had an inside stateroom for our first cruise, and it was great. But then we got a window for our second one, and we realized what a difference it makes.
For me, having the daylight coming in in the morning made a HUGE difference. I have thyroid issues, and it's tough for me to wake up as it is.
I think the thing I hated most about the inside stateroom was the fact that the room always looked the same in the morning as it did when we had gone to bed. It really messes with your head!

I've done inside cabins. Not bad at all but for a Meditarranean cruise you may want one with a balcony so you can sit and watch while the dock at the port. If it was a regular Carribean cruise I would go for the inside stateroom

I have been on the inside, a picture window, a porthole and a balcony...the balcony is awesome and if feasible I would always get one..but if the difference between a porthole and an inside is significant pricewise I would stick with the inside because the porthole is really not great...in fact the porthole room I had I really could not even see out that well...

We have stayed in all diffrent kinds of rooms and we go for the inside. When you are on the ship there is no special treatment for having a window, and usually the big difference in price just doesn't seem worth it. We actually prefer the inside rooms for our afternoon naps!

I stayed in an inside cabin. It wasn't bad at all & I am claustrophobic. Honestly, I spent hardly anytime in the room anyway.

It's $800 for an "oceanview stateroom"... it's $1800 for a balcony... big difference! ha... if it were 800 for the balcony, I would do it... but just for a window, not so sure it matters... especially a porthole -- do you really see anything out of it?? besides that it's a rainy or sunny day??

And for Allison, it's a Norwegian Gem cruise leaving from Barcelona -- stopping at Nice, Florence, Rome, Napes, and some place else I can't remember...
We are going on the Celebrity Summitt, leaving out of Venice Italy and returning to Barcelona. We are going to all the places you are going, and a few more. Are you going around July 10th?

we always had an inside room(we justify it by using our "balcony" money for gambling).
We probably always will have an inside room in the future, my kid is a climbing monkey, i would not want to take any changes with a door left open.

That's a big difference between the balcony and outside room!
If so, stay with the outside. Otherwise if you really prefer a balcony try another cruiseline that has less expensive balconies.
DH and I did a 2 week Princess Mediterranean cruise last year and absolutely love having the balcony. It's worth every single penny. We pay about 700 extra for it.
When we wanna relax we just sit outside as the ship as the ship enters and leaves the port. It's truly a relaxing experiencing being able to sit in your bathrobe in the privacy of your own balcony.
