We always bring a bottle with us. Each passenger can bring one bottle of liquor onto the ship with them. It must be packed in your suitcase though when "checking-in" but you'll have to claim it when you debark.

We would use the free OJ,Cranberry juices and such and add our liquor into it.

The drinks were expensive - $8each, even with the daily drink specials where you buy the glass and get refills - they're light when it comes to the liquor.

For soda's and such - I would get the card - it's unlimited for the duration of the trip.

What ship are you on? This site: ShipTips has bar menus and dinner menus for a lot of ships. The information might be outdated, but it will give you a picture of what the costs are.

We didn't bring alcohol on board, but we did buy it in the ports, and no one took it away from us.

Also, RCCL had a drink of the day that was a bit cheaper than the regular mixed drinks on board.

The soda card worked out great for us. I wish we had thought to bring our own booze. We racked up quite a bill!

I went on a big family cruise a few years back and we are a big irish family and drank a lot. The cruise was 7 days and me and DH's bar bill was $800!!! Well worth it for the fun we had!!!
