Cruises - Anyone ever worry about you or your kids falling over the side?
I've been watching too many "cruise" movies lately and saw that they seem to easily fall overboard? Especially after drinking. Can you? We've never been on a cruise so I don't know. Thanks!

Re: Cruises - Anyone ever worry about you or your kids falling over the side?
The only time it has ever crossed my mind is when DH & I were walking the ship at night and we were standing at the back and I just thought to myself holy $hit is I fell over I'm done it's pitch black out and this ship is flying! So I always steer clear of the back of the ship at night.
Any of time, no I'm not concerned. I don't lean too far over though...ever

You could. I wouldn't say easily, but you could definitely get drunk and fall over. That being said, I've been on 5 cruises and no one has ever even come close to falling overboard. The railings are REALLY high up on the upper decks. On the lower decks though, it's about waist high on an average adult and worse yet, there's nothing underneath the lower decks. Like if you fell off the top deck, which is near impossible, you'd probably land in someone's balcony. If you fell off the lower deck, you're in the water. And like a pp mentioned, you're flying at night and the water is pitch black. But I've still never feared that, even in my drunkest walks at night.
Okay, so don't mind the photo, but it's the only one I could find that shows the average height of the railing on the lower decks. lol! This was taken on our balcony.

Re: Cruises - Anyone ever worry about you or your kids falling over the side?
I'm sure that if you really ignored your child for an extended period of time they "could" fall overboard but it isn't something I would worry about. They would have to pull furniture over and really climb to go overboard. I have 2 active children who are monkeys and I never worried once they would fall overboard. In fact they never tried to climb anywhere near the railings. We were on celebrity's Summit and they have plexiglass so they never felt the need to climb they could easily see out. As far as an adult going overboard honestly you would really have to TRY hard to go over (as in climb up or sit on a railing).
Here is a picture of our balcony so you can see that the railings are pretty high and that they didn't need to climb to see out (we had the penthouse suite balcony under us so if they did fall they would land on their balcony).
You can see in this picture they have rails - but the girls couldn't fit between them. But you would be with them on deck and they railings come up to my elbows or higher and I'm 5' 8".
