Re: CSE meeting in an hour on the phone
What was she in prior, a 15:1:1 or an 8:1:1? I would thinking going from a collaborative setting to an 8:1:1 is a big jump. What about moving back to the 15:1:1?

Janet are you in NY?? I can't remember. In NY the law requires a parent member to be present or it's not a valid CSE meeting.
yes i am in ny... they called and someone walked in and interrupted the meeting and now i am on hold
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
required to be in attendance in NY:
1 general ed teacher if she is mainstreamed in anything (including gym)
1 spec ed teacher (preferably one of hers)
school psychologist
chair person
someone who can read and properly interpret reports (IQ tests etc)
parent member
any other person w/ special knowledge of student
If anyone is missing DO NOT WAIVE YOUR RIGHTS. Demand they adjourn to have everyone present
If it is a reevalution year then you have the full committee--if not then only a sub committee is necessary.
If you dont like what is happening stop the meeting and tell them you would like to reschedule when you can be there in person.

Re: CSE meeting in an hour on the phone
Why would they bring your DC into the meeting? Is that normal?

Re: CSE meeting in an hour on the phone
It is your right as the parent to decide if you want your daughter present for the meeting. Depending on her age and maturity, it is not always the most appropriate thing to do.

Re: CSE meeting in an hour on the phone
well i did not agree with the setting of keeping her in a collaborative class room. i made it quit known that her teachers even with 2 in the classroom can not keep her on task. they are sending a due processes to me and again made me feel bad for "holding her back" really this school sucks. that she is not meeting her potential in that setting, in my opinion. the lady was very nasty, and DOWN RIGHT RUDE!!!! telling me i was holding my child back. i really need to go there and strangle this woman. you do not know my child , you have no idea how she works. and test mean SH I T in the real world. reality is she can not follow more then 3 direction at a time with out getting lost or off track. i feel i was ignored in how i felt this school is not providing for my daughter and my thoughts where that of less then theirs. i am going to call my sp. office tomorrow after i calm down. and tell them that meeting was useless and i want a new one.

I am a special ed teacher and I agree with others that you should have tried to reschedule the meeting.
Can I ask how old your daughter is? If the child is in middle school or high school they should be present at the CSE meeting because the CSE is determining her schedule. Just an FYI. For transition and future planning the child should be in attendance.
