CT Mommies.. I have a question for a friend

A lady is preggo in a small company in CT.

She's worried that if she uses up the short term disability but decides NOT to come back to work they may make her 'pay back' the disability she used.

I can't see this as possible but I was hoping you guys might know.

Thanks

not in CT, but I know my company policy specifically discusses this. can she get her hands on the company's employee handbook to see what it says?

hrm, ok I'll ask her to review it.

I figured it just sounded wrong. Don't they make you sign off on something if they do this? Kinda odd to hold your benefits as something that needs to be 'repaid'.Chat Icon

the policy at my company is 6 weeks of leave for STD, 6 weeks for maternity leave. I don't think you ever have to pay back the disability portion. But, in certain circumstances you might need to pay back maternity. The policy changed last i looked. i think it said something like if you don't return to this job or any job for 6 mths (and stay home with your baby) you don't need to repay. but if you take another job within 6 mths, you need to repay. you dont need to repay if you come back part time. but this is just company policy...
