Current teachers please help! I have an interview...UPDATE
i have never ever been on a public school interview before. it is for a special education class (mainly autism).
1. what should i wear?
2. what should i bring?
3. what kind of questions will they ask me?????
omg i am so excited and nervous!

I have a 2nd interview for Monday! They called me about 2 hrs after I interviewed to set it up!

Wear a suit. Bring your resume and a portfolio if you have one. (No one ever asked me for a portfolio but if you have one, bring it.) Have a little knowledge about the district...look on their website. I am not sure what they will ask you. Good LUCK!

Also, make sure you have some questions in your mind about what you can ask them (maybe research something from their website, and ask about that) Good luck!

Great advice! Also, prepare some intelligent questions to ask, ie, how they support professional development, technology in the classroom, etc. Good luck!

I agree with everyone. I personally have never worn a suit on an interview, and managed to get a job. But many of my fellow teachers think it's crazy I didn't wear a suit. If you HAVE one, then wear it. If you have a portfolio and resume, bring it. I usually forced my portfolio on them - haha. As I sat down I would put it in the middle of teh table and say, "And here's my portfolio in case anyone would like to look at it." And yes, look at their website first. If it's dealing with autism, then make sure you're up on the latest research, etc. So come across professional and knowledgable. You'll do great!!

On a sidenote...I'm a special ed teacher and have worked with children with autism before if you have any questions. I am by no means an expert, but I have experience. I don't know if you have worked with children with autism or not.

i dont have a suit. i went to roosevelt field today and i could not find anything that fit. i am still in between sizes since my pregnancy last year.
i have been a teacher for children with autism for over 10 yrs, but mainly center based, not public school.

i have a pair of black pinstriped pants and i was going to wear that with a long sleeved cardigan set. hmmm, the interview is for thursday and i was just called today for it. i guess i will have to search some more tomorrow.

I know someone who has an interview at the same school I believe. . . I don't think they have an autism program so they want to know how you would go about setting up one. How would u incorporate standards into programming, how would you collaborate w/ other teachers etc!

I agree - I would not where anything except a suit, even if that means buying something you don't love tomorrow - there are a lot of places that sell suit separates now if you are between sizes or different top and bottom.

I recently sat on a special ed. selection committee. Some of the questions we asked were:
-How would you address the diverse needs in your self-contained classroom, which would have a variety of learning and behavioral needs? (looking for discussion of organizing learning groups, organization structure and use of additional personnel-TA, aid, etc.)
-Tell us about a BIP you have used successfully.
-When does difficulty become disability?
-What would make you consider yourself "successful" if you worked with a group of students for a year?
I can't remember too many more. If I think of any, I'll post them.
