Curtain length?

What length curtains should I be buying? Should they go all the way to the floor or is it OK for them to hang beneath the window a little bit?

Re: Curtain length?

it's totally a matter of preference. in our bedroom, we have two windows-- one where the wall beneath is exposed to the floor, the other above the head of our bed. For the one above our bed, we have curtains that fall about 6" above the top of the mattress; for the other window, the curtains go to the floor (or almost to the floor).

I think it really depends on the room and the window, b/c each length will yield a very different look.

I think it's a matter of preference and the overall feel and look of the room. I've read though in some magazines that when they are long and touch the floor gives it a sense of elegance.

Re: Curtain length?

It really is preference. But I would say the three most common lengths are:
1. Cafe Curtains
2. Length right below window sill
3. Length to the floor

I like mine to the floor or right above the floor. I don't like them to puddle on the floor. I guess that is another length....puddled on the floor. But they get dusty. What kind of feel do you want in your room is the question you need to ask yourself.

Another thought is, if you hang them high and wide.....meaning several inches above the window (close the the ceiling or molding) and about 12" wider then the window molding on left and right. The higher you hang the curtain you give you room the illusion that the room is taller. The wider you put the rod, you make the window look bigger. GL!Chat Icon
