Curves vs. Gym...UPDATED
Hello,
I want to start working out again. I am overweight and I am kind of intimidated by the gym, since I haven't worked out in a while.
I am eager to lose weight and get my life back on track.
If you have joined Curves did you like? was it too slow for you?
I just need some advice.
Thanks!

Update:
I took your advice on joining a club thats for me and I think I found one...I just joined Ladies Express Workout. Its a circuit gym with classes (which I enjoy) and it has treadmills, elliptical machine and others. I went for a free trial today and I enjoyed it. Its small and intimate, only ladies, and has all the things I was looking for.
Thanks so much for your advice!

Re: Curves vs. Gym
I joined Curves for one year. here is my list of pros and cons:
Pros: 1.woman only (was too self conscious to be with men, lol) 2.I saw results, fast. Really good results. 3.nice fast half hour workout
Now here are the cons: 1.Got Boring reallllll fast, you go in a circle. Its the same machines and boring music EVERYDAY. 2.Limited workout hours
I lasted a year. I lost the weight i wanted and then i quit. if you have any other ?'s fm me anytime.

Re: Curves vs. Gym
I don't know how much you are willing to spend on a membership, but I am not a gym person... I need someone guiding me and keeping me motivated! I also like that feel like going to class is like an appointment I can't break!
Over a year ago I joined I Love Kickboxing. Its a little pricey, but you have an instructor and they really do watch each person in class and motivate you. Its a really tough class, you do as much as you can... an amazing workout!

Re: Curves vs. Gym
I didnt like Curves
I agree with PPer - it got boring FAST
I had to break my contract to get out of it!
I would join a gym and take classes instead! Lucille Roberts is usually good and have good classes and the only woman thing is a nice thing for just starting out!

Re: Curves vs. Gym
I agree with the others, curves will get boring fast. I think your best bet is if you feel uncomfortable - to check out a female only gym. I have a few friends who are not a fan of coed gyms and they love the female only gym they go to. They will offer alot of perks than from what curves offers...different machinery to use, different classes. And this way you have variation to keep you motivated.

I know one friend who still goes to Jazzercise but she is not in NY. I think Zumba is the new Jazzercise.
I belong to Lucille Roberts and I love that there's only women.

Re: Curves vs. Gym
I looked into this awhile ago and the limited daytime hours turned me off.
I think this is why a lot of these places only stay in business a short time.
If you are looking for an amazing work-out, I highly recommend hot yoga.
I've been members of gyms before and they are not my thing. I think I've gotten my best ever work-out here, and it's become more like a great hobby for me now.
If you can commit to at least 3 classes a week, hydrate well daily, and watch your diet, you will notice a big difference in your body and so will everyone else!
I also eat a lot of junk and many people have commented that I have lost a lot of weight, and becomed toned including DH.
People I know who go more than the 3x a week look even more amazing.

Exactly the same for me.
The exercises are fairly idiot-proof and you do see results fast... but the hours are terrible. And the music! The music is just terrible - I think I would have sucked up the hours if I could have listened to my own jams.
